Bookmarked for ridicule. There's no fricking way the cheapest insurance is $20k. This will look a lot like the Joshua Chamberlin ("we're going to win") disaster.

Just did with $135000 family income and youngest adult a 19---typical middle class family with a kid in college and 4 total family members. Projected premium $514 per month or $6168. Total out of pocket $12100 for a total cost of $18268 per year. My situation is not quite the same but should be more expensive. Today I pay $10800 per year and have a maximum out of pocket of $5600 for a total of $16400. My premium has gone up without any claims $4000 per year over 2008 premiums. Obama care is about making insurance companies and government richer and as a consequence politicians richer. Can you imagine how much lobbyist have been passing around on this deal??

We have had universal care forever. There is at least one hospital in every city that will not turn people away. Ultimately we all pay for 40 million people going to emergency rooms for primary care. This is the most inefficient system possible.

Health care should be subscription based and no insurance companies involved. This is where Ryan was headed with his medicare proposal that was also part of Simpson Bowles. Government over paying for care the last 3 decades is the reason health care is so high. The government buys over 50% of the health care in the US now and they are very, very poor buyers. Those of us of a certain age remember when hospital bills were by the day. Easy to shop. Some wise guy got the idea that medicare and medicaid should be fee for service and that is when we started getting these 100 page bills. The other very, very bad thing is this. Health providers that take medicare can not charge anyone LESS than they charge medicare. Medicare sits a floor that keeps rising. If you are Pfizer and want another $2 a pill for some drug you lobby medicare to raise your reimburse and wa-la every body gets a $2 per pill increase. IT SUCKS BADLY.

wow what a fricking bargain Is the cost basically driven by Obama's/leftists' goal to cover folks who can't pay for their own health care, i.e., illegal aliens for example? In other words, are American middle class families (and an income of $120,000 is solidly middle-class) going to be footing the bill for anchor babies' medical expenses? I don't want to over-generalize but isn't that pretty much what's happening?

I know you think you're doing a good thing here, but this kind of chain email bull shite is what makes rational conservatives look bad. This is an estimate. Used to illustrate an example. The use of the word average should be enough of a clue to tell you that this isn't some sort of hard cap like the CNS article implies. Get your head out of your arse and stop crying wolf everytime jimbo's blog says the sky is falling. This kind of shite is exactly why Obama got a second term.

I've been following Obamacare closely because it could really have an effect on my bottom line. I see what you're saying, that this COULD be just an example used to illustrate a point. The problem is we have so little information as to the actual regulations effecting the cost that it's not absurd to look at this and try to get a feel for where they are going. We don't know what is required of us. We do know that the IRS will be the enforcer of the regs and the aggregator of all the information. So when they say the "average" premium will be 20k, with the paltry amount of information we have concerning the regs, it's reasonable to speculate on that number. I think you're off base here.

Neither Medicare nor Medicaid pay for inpatient stays based on FFS. The bill may be 100 pages long but the hospital is paid based on the diagnosis among some other qualifiers.

Wtf are you talking about? I have a family of four and we pay a total of four hundred a month, or 4800 a year. You have no clue. That's a 750 deductible with BCBS.
that sounds like BS. NO way family of 4 for $400. I don't believe even 1 person can get insurance for $400 a month. Maybe you pay $400 a month and your company pays the rest?

Yeah, but when they are buying 100% under single payer they will get much better at it, and everyone will get a pony for Christmas.

I pay a flat 200 dollar bonus to 7 employees for insurance. They are required to give me a bill every 6 months to prove they are keeping there payments up. Only two are over 200 a month and they both have maternity . I just got one the other day and she pays 108 a month..

That's actually a smart way to do it. They can shop around for a plan that meets their own family's needs, and you save money. But Ogump and Pelousy would think you're horrible because you give your employees freedom of choice.

You are so superstitious and gullible for listening to original sources. You need to get your news from Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews.
