Steelers would still have more post season wins, and more Hall of Famers.

Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Chicago Bears are light years ahead of everyone

Steelers were the Clippers of the NFL until Chuck Noll showed up.

Cowboys weren't around long enough

Why does everyone always want to name someone the best something in history?

Conditioned by ESPN. Nobody has a clue about historical perspective.

I mean, right now the 49ers won 5 Super Bowls. The Packers got that many NFL championships between 1961 and 1968.

It is interesting that people seem to only care about the Super Bowl era as if other championships hold no value.

I wasn't around then so I'm not sure how they were determined but it seems silly to ignore the pre super bowl history when discussing the historical greatness of franchises.

I think the Super Bowl era is a fair starting point...everything before it (like CFB before 1960) is muddled.

The Super Bowl era...the expansion of the league, integration with players...it's a more accurate playing field of what teams today are facing in winning a title compared with some 8 team league with a bunch of white guys in the 30's, 40's or 50's or whatever.

If you want to differentiate you can say...greatest franchise of the modern era and have the Bears/Giants GOATS of barnstorming football.

Gotta switch these two based on HOW the 70's Steelers were built. Draft EXCELLENCE and great coaching.

We are still in complete agreement.

The Steelers have been way above average for 40 years. They were still a good team even in the 80s even without the SB.

The 49ers were the dregs of the NFL in the late 70s and the better part of the 2000s.
