I completely forgot about that. Now that I think of it, it would've been a stretch if he DIDN'T suspect something was going on.

I really enjoyed the pilot. Kerry Russell did a better job than I was expecting and the lead actor was very good as well. I did also like the re-created atmosphere of the 80's as well. I'll watch.

I think the fact that the neighbor has just gotten out of the deep cover job also has him suspecting everyone like his wife suggested.

I like the Phillip character a lot

I think Elizabeth told him her past to draw him back in...she doesn't have feelings for him like he does.

The scene at the end where the fbi guy broke in the garage and Phillip was lurking in the shadowswas awesome.

Thank god Hank only thinks clearly on the John.

seems like it did pretty well ratings wise.

quote:

FX’s critically acclaimed new drama series The Americans got off to a strong start Wednesday night, drawing a combined 4.7 million Total Viewers and 2.54 million Adults 18-49 for its first-run episode and encore telecasts.

The series premiere telecast, which ran from 10:00-11:38 PM, delivered 3.22 million Total Viewers and 1.57 million Adults 18-49, which outperformed the premiere of American Horror Story in Total Viewers (3.18 million), and Sons Of Anarchy in Adults 18-49 (1.55 million). The first encore telecast of The Americans at 11:38 PM delivered 1.01 million Total Viewers and 643,000 Adults 18-49, and the final encore at 1:14 AM posted 470,000 Total Viewers and 319,000 Adults 18-49. The Americans topped all broadcast networks in the 10 PM time period in delivery of Men 18-34 (407,000).

“We’re very happy with premiere ratings for The Americans and, just as importantly, we’re proud of the widespread critical acclaim the show has received,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX. “We have no doubt that when we get the Live+7 time-shifted ratings from last night, The Americans will rank among the best series debuts ever on FX. We’re grateful to Executive Producers Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Graham Yost, and to our outstanding cast led by Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich, as well as the entire team behind this great show.”

Finally watched it. I really didn't have high expectations going in, and even forgot that it was on, so I unfortunately missed the first 10 minutes.

I really liked it. I might have to watch it later on on demand with the gf to catch the beginning.

As far as the Guess jeans, the were founded in 1981,so I guess it's possible that she could have a pair.

This. It was fricking creepy to see the flashlight shine on his face from across the garage. Looked like a ghost.

I'm really digging this show.

Caught the rerun tonight. Overall impressed. Will watch again.

Minor nitpick: "Happy Days" syndrome, eighties music in the background might be from 1980 or 1989, regardless of when the scene is taking place. News report on Iran hostage crisis places it around 1981, yet there's mid eighties music playing.

I'm calling it now, John Boy Walton is a double agent.

The only thing that could make this show better is if Kevin Costner were to make an appearance as "Yuri". Interesting call on John Boy.

FBI cast of relative unknowns except for one household name. Why is he there? Obviously the plot runs through him somehow. Logical conclusion: double agent.

ETA: Another nitpick. Husband and wife both show mad martial art skills. I don't care how good your initial instruction is, that shite is perishable unless you keep up your training. Do they practice on each other? How do they explain it to their kids?

If there are really cold war sleeper agents out there, I wish some of them would come forward. They'd have a hell of a story to tell.

Just curious, I can't remember the scene...what song(s) were playing?

Oh, and I will also add my opinion on the show: Excellent. (I'd rather episode specific threads though)

I agree. If this show stays good, I'm thinking there will be a lot to discuss about individual episodes.

This thread is titled as Series Premier so I don't see any reason someone can't start and Ep 2 thread today/tonight.

Three songs I remember them playing were:
Harden my Heart by Quarterflash
In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins
Tusk by Fleetwood Mac

All three were from the early 80's if I'm correct.

The series takes place after Reagan was sworn in so that puts it no earlier then spring of '81.
Someone else can research the release dates of those songs.
