Take a look at the numbers of potential jobs a la the Keystone pipeline that have been decapitated by the actions of the EPA. Thousands of jobs are being eliminated by new regulations on coal emmissions.

Who was the company that just announced they would not go forward with their project in Corpus Christi because of regulations? It would have created 2k jobs

The other major drag came from business inventories declining in the fourth quarter. When that happens, it often signals businesses will have to buy more goods in the upcoming quarter to restock their shelves, which could lead to stronger growth in the first quarter of 2013.

re: BREAKING NEWS: U.S. economy shrank in 2012 4th qtr

We just had a presidential election which was reduced to let's vote for Obama and not the rich guy Romeny.

Employment numbers were cooked to shrink the rate force so the almighty unemployment percentage could get under 8%.

And now we finally see what the overall economy was doing while we argued about the women in the binders, Obama's birth place, and all the other things that had nothing to do with Obama's performance in office.

Right now we are discussing amnesty for illegal aliens, limiting your gun rights, gay marriage, and jobs for the future while right now nothing is being done at the Federal level to get the economy moving forward. NOTHING!!

Meanwhile states are taking this opportunity to make themselves more attractive by lowering taxes as the Feds raise them.

Biden said the Middle Class was getting hammered. The numbers today proved that the beat goes on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just a chart of the growth of each component of the GDP from the previous quarter. Each component of GDP is weighted differently. Consumer spending (personal consumption) is weighted the heaviest because more raw dollars were spent by consumers (as they normally are) than the other components. For example the GDP in this print was $15.767 Trillion. Of the total GDP print $9.6719 Trillion was personal consumption.

Here is the official report by the BEA.

These two quotes only mention two components of GDP, government spending and inventories. I however do agree that a negative on the government spending component is a good thing.

The major component of GDP is consumer spending. Consumer confidence did tick lower in yesterday's report. Is this indicative of lower consumer spending in 1Q13? Probably. I mention probably because of three things, 1) anemic job creation, 2) tax increases, and 3) regulatory roadblocks to economic expansion.

Also the minor component, imports was positive last quarter. I fully expect this component to turn negative this quarter (as it usually is).

Thus to print a positive GDP for 1Q13 and to keep us out of an official recession (2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth) government spending and inventories are going to have to offset any negative consumer spending and imports that face serious "headwinds" in this quarter.

"Often" "Could". Certainly inventories will have to be restocked, but not to the same levels before the Tax increases of 2013.

Oh, did you notice the revised December Job Growth #? Just a small downward revision of 16% (185k from 215k). I'm sure NYT has it covered on page 16.

The sequestration that's coming up will cut another $1.2trillion.

Dems havent passed a budget in 4 years. Whos fault is this?

quote:

The economy only grows when someone is spending

Right, but here it comes...
quote:

the consumer

yes
quote:

the government

no
quote:

or both

not really.

So the economy is slowing, so the progressive solution is to increase gov spending and raise taxes, which will decrease consumer spending. Corp taxes and Obamacare will decrease the tax base (already happening.) So the deficit will continue to grow, consumers will have less money to spend, and we'll get more entitlement programs to ensure the progressives continue to have a stranglehold on Washington.

Oh yeah, this is all Bush's fault.

There are been alot of pending cuts that you just don't know about. Here's an example of cuts that go unnoticed:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) acknowledged on Wednesday that House Republicans had consciously voted to reduce the funds allocated to the State Department for embassy security since winning the majority in 2010.

On Wednesday morning, CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien asked the Utah Republican if he had "voted to cut the funding for embassy security."

"Absolutely," Chaffetz said. "Look we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have…15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 contractors, a private army there, for President Obama, in Baghdad. And we’re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces. When you’re in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices. You have to prioritize things.”

For the past two years, House Republicans have continued to deprioritize the security forces protecting State Department personnel around the world. In fiscal year 2011, lawmakers shaved $128 million off of the administration's request for embassy security funding.

Do you not know what a "shrinking economy" actually means?

lies. Hillary's deputy sec. said that they did not want for cash for security.

In fact, the allocate their budget.

Spending money on kindles at 10k a pop, or 200k for an electric charging station for volts in Switzerland, plus a fleet of volts....seems like MISALLOCATION of resources.

fail lib.
