Been quail hunting a decent amount because my step-pow pow use to raise and sell them and put 1/4 on his property. He died and we sold the property and I haven't been since, but it is my favorite type of bird hunting.

I think my cousin used to go in Zemurray Gardens, but all I see on there website is about the plantation. Any good places down here that the OB knows of, or has a review of?

All I am finding is Bayou Teche and Covey Rise(never been, heard good reviews). I haven't been to Tallow Creek in maybe 15 years, but I remember them saying they were gonna do it back then

Short drive to Lumberton, MS will put you at Longleaf Plantation, pretty awesome place. Not cheap though...

I went at Lake Ramsey when I was much younger. Nature Conservancy frowns upon hunting around their newly acquired 200 year old pine trees though. Also used to go at Money Hill.

I've been to a place called Bon Amis in Ville Platte a couple times and had enjoyable hunts

None of it's cheap anymore, you'd save money bar hopping in Galveston and trading duck hunts (if you can). That being said, if you decide to go out to Covey Rise, Mr. J will take care of you and you'll have a blast. Bon Amis was good when I was young, but that was back in the 90's

Cane creek outfitters in poplarville MS, maybe 40 min north of Slidell. Nothing fancy but extremely reasonable price around 125 for 10 birds. Its timber hunting too which is something I've never done before and the guide/owner was the man, let us get a few extra too

Long River Lodge is north of Krotz Spinga in Melvile. I talked with the owner at a dinner last month and they have scaled back quail hunting this year to change up the operation. They farm thousands of acres, have a very nice lodge and clays set up, have established some wild coveys, are doing large early season releasews of birds and are in the process of movIng away from field hunting and going to path hunting instead of field hunting. He sid they will be set up with ~5 miles of quail trails to hunt. If you are looking for realistic quail hunting this is the place. If you are looking for a meat hunt look elsewhere...

I think Tallow Creek has a walking course set up for Quail hunts in Goodbee, right next to the Goodbee/Madisonville exit.

Do they fly when u kick em, or just stagger around kinda dizzy from the guy one curve ahead of you slinging them around and then placing them?

I think they just shoot them out of a clay thrower. Only 2 shots per station and the survivors get recycled.

There used to be quail all over the place in W. St. Tammany Parish. Haven't seen/heard any in a long time. A lot of the land around Lake Ramsay used to be in the Core family. My great-uncle Willie built the lake and campground that's now a subdivision for transplanted Yats. Never hunted there, though. The lake had some huge bass and dos gris and blackjacks used to raft up there by the thousands.

went on a hunt in south arkansas like this for a bachelor party. forget the name. 3 of them were in a group. we kicked "at them" and that didn't work. then we literally kicked them. the birds just looked at us like we were idiots. my buddy and i unloaded our guns and went back to the lodge.
ETA: im not a big hunter by any means (especially quail and pheasant) but this is just retarded. why anyone would pay for something like that is beyond me.

Some people like you don't know what they are getting and some places have good birds. But good birds and grounds to hunt them on is not cheap. Quail take lots of land and habitat management in the southeast...

Sandy Hollow WMA. I've seen people bird hunting out there about this time of the year and have heard quails whistling at daybreak. I don't quail hunt but you might look into it.

They are there, but they are few, very, very few. Those birds also know how to evade and escape. Gotta bring your A game, A dogs, and a leprechaun...

i agree with you. but when you watch the guy leave 30 minutes ahead of you w/ a bag full of birds and then you meet him so he can "point you in the right direction" that is not hunting. my friends dad has a place in texas he quail hunts. he said if they kill 2 birds they had a great hunt. they own it and hunt it "naturally"
