I would also get rid of the objective/goal statement.
Besides, if you're applying as an intern everyone knows your goal - to build your resume for later.

Skip with objective.
Replace it with a summary where you highlight the aspects of your resume that reflects your education/experiences that they are looking for in the position.
I had a resume with an objective.
Not a single returned contact after 30 attempts.
Replaced it with a summary (usually tweaked to be specific for the position) and I got at least a phone interview within a week at every position.

2x what siderophere, and a summary is much easier to tailor to a specific application than an objective.

Another pro tip that is often overlooked is to use key words where applicable.
If you basically already say you have the attributes/experience they are looking for, make sure you state it in terms of how the listing put it.
Remember, you are trying to set yourself apart from a massive piles so that the door is open for you to work with.
Every little bit helps.

Don't use it, when I look at resumes I smirk when I see and objective statement. We don't care, we just want to known if your smart enough and can be a good asset to the company.

I've tossed the "goal/objective" for a "skills keywords" section to help beat resume parsing programs, as well as displaying keyword about what I can do in the lab. (i'm a scientist)

It's like they just use it to parse the contact info from.
And nothing else.
The worst part is when it's heavily segmented and they ask the same question 2-3 times but phrased slightly differently.

I think it's good to have one, but the one you use is long, yet somehow very vague. I would go with "to obtain an offer as a xxx intern". Simple and to the point. If you have a specific company in mind, add "with xxx company".
