We had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago in Dallas. A local church was hosting its 7th annual buyback program (turn in a firearm for gift card). A counter group set up shop across the street and offered more (in cash).

These must be mostly garbage guns. Why would someone wait until government had a program to buy guns for 100-200 bucks when they might get more from a dealer, and moreover, who would bring anything demanding real value like an AR,M4, AK, or anything military related from WWII, etc? Hot maybe? But then are criminals really going to stroll up to the police and hand them in? Dunno, but it sure seems odd to me unless someone has a piece of garbage and wants to unload it for some quick cash.
