Am driving all night through Bama and Florida with the family.

Want to take my pops pistol since i dont have one right now and dont want to be on side of interstate at 1:00 in morning with thumb up my butt.

Don't want to go to prison.

Good idea or no?

I driven with one since the 70's throughout most of all the SE with no problems. They have been owned by me though.

Heck, there's probably even an "App" for that (whatever that is.)

In Alabama you can carry a gun on your hip without any permits. Don't sweat it.

I think the case has to be looked and not accessible to the driver (in the trunk or bed). Look it up though as I'm not 100%

You must have a Permit/License to carry a loaded handgun in any vehicle.
A person may lawfully transport a firearm, including a handgun, from one state in which they are legal to possess to another state without a permit as required under Alabama law, provided the following conditions are met:
- The firearm is unloaded.
- Neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle.
- In case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the firearm and ammunition shall be in a locked container other than the glove box or console. Title 18 U.S.C. section 926A

From handgunlaw.us which is usually accurate. You can check the actual RS as well.

Just stick it in a gun safe seperate. from the ammo. However if you had a CCP you could just roll with it through each state. I live in Georgia and have a beach house in Florida, never had an issue. Follow the law and watch your speed you should be fine regardless of what you do.
