quote:

what is a "push press"?

Push press is a shoulder press where you use your legs. Dip your knees a bit and explode straight up locking the weight out over your head, arms fully extended and standing straight up.

i got to the 165 but was totally shot so i only got 60 reps which is fine with me considering i had never snatched until that day

What kind of stuff did you do up until that point? You obviously were already in great shape and I assume you were new to crossfit considering you hadn't done snatches before.

um just work out. i did a lot of upper cause like i said i was fresh off of knee surgery in that pic. that's one of the reasons my weight had gone up a bit. i was about 205 in that one. i'm back down to about 193 now

That's a kipping pull-up. Once you learn how to kip, it makes pull-ups much easier and faster to rep through.

why would I want to make the exercise easier...that defeats the purpose of the pullup

we work on both. we do dead hang pull ups to gain strength and kipping pull ups for time and reps. trust me though..a good kip works alot of muscles that a dead hang doesnt so they both have advantages and disadvantages

lulz.

I saw a dude drop a kettle bell on his foot the other day doing some sort of cross fit extreme contortions.

Look up the workout "murph". Go do it and tell me how easy it is with the kipping pull-ups.

I listened to it explained. Why would generating horizontal motion (which is ridiculous concerning you're moving in the vertical plane for the contraction) be a better way to move in the vertical.

i understand the momentum transfer, but the increased load applied to your muscles seems like it could damage your shoulders without the activation necessary in the vertical plane

you're missing the point crossfitter....

the issue is that you are using a cheap source of swinging momentum to complete a rep. That isnt a measure of strength, and vastly increases your chance of injury because you are transferring momentum for different planes of motion.
