I understand the disappointment, anger, even rage at the Commish, but really, with this historically awful defense, can anyone lay out a coherent argument for the 2012 Saints, intact, without NFL sanctions, as a SB contender?

if we get into the playoffs, anything can happen

the offense bothered me just as much as the defense this year. We couldn't sustain drives and were leaving the D in bad situations. We wouldn't have had such a terrible statistical D with Payton IMO

He at least cost us a shot at it. The defense was bad, but it was compounded by the sluggishness of the offense for stretches.

Saints were 13-3 last year, and 30 seconds away from having the Giants at home to get to SB 45... with virtually the same exact team as this year. So yea.. I think he might have cost us.

I think he cost us a couple games that would have gotten us in the playoffs to contend for a Super Bowl

coherent

Don't know about that but coulda woulda shoulda is a fine start.
I dont believe the off. would have been near as bad as it was with our off. co-ordinator(CSP) back the first four games.
I truely believe 3-1 not 0-4.
The biggest question is the effect of CSP on Spags and the Def. He would NOT have been hands off as he was with GW per their agreement. What kind of influence and how much it would have helped is a big arse unknown.
I feel certain the def. would have changed and adjusted quicker than it did.
I believe 100% that Roger cost us a winning record and a trip to the playoffs.
Beyond that I would not say.

The Saints have been a playoff contender the last 3 years. They were NFC south Champs in 2011 and coming off a 13 win season last year, winning 9 games in row at one point. Why wouldn't they be a SB contender, because of Tracy Porter and Robert Meachum leaving?

We went 7-9 even with that pitiful arse defense and no coaching.

So no, I don't think it's too farfetched. It's almost an absolute certainty we at least get in.
