Looking to buy a pistol... What (others) should I be looking at?

This would be for self/home protection. Also, I do not want a revolver.
I have been "looking around" for a while and am leaning towards the golck g21 or the g37
Any other guns I should be looking at?

I'd go XD over glock
Revolver, I'd go ruger GP100. My favorite handgun to shoot.

Magnum research baby eagle

If you're not going to carry this particular gun concealed then definitely get a full sized gun. Glock 17, a used sig p226, XDs, maybe a used HK, and several others will be in your price range.
Eta: forgot the m&p
You also have the option to get a 1911 for that price, but that's one of those things you either like or don't like.
I personally would look for a Lightly used DAO sig.

Get a ruger sr1911 $699.99
Magnum research 1911 around the same price.
If you're not gonna carry, I'd go with a full sized 1911.

Haven't looked at 1911's at all... What are the main pro/cons to them?

You're looking at Glocks, but haven't specified a budget.
Also, you didn't specify caliber, but your Glock candidates are .45 ACP and .45 GAP, implying you're a big bore guy.
I would look at the Sig P250 (full size) in .45 ACP. I don't have one, yet, but am considering it because of my experience with the excellent P220. The 2Sum package, in .45 ACP would be a very intriguing choice for you, as you can configure the gun in sub-compact (okay, subcompact for Sig is not really the same as everybody else, but still very carryable according to the dimensions) mode or full-sized, depending on need and preference. The cost is relatively reasonable (at least for a Sig).
NY State police issues the Glock 37, FWIW. My buddy who is a trooper there carries a Glock 36 as his backup/off-duty gun, so he has bought into the big-bore madness.
A little higher up in the budget line is Sig P220 and H&K USP (full size) in .45 ACP (or the M&P, if you want to consider pistols more similiar to Glock ergonomics).
Everybody and his brother is making a 1911 variant now, so have you considered single action?
Also, although in the used market, the Smith & Wesson 4506 is an outstanding large pistol in .45 ACP, particularly if you wanted a SA/DA gun with a manual safety.

I personally think they're the best handgun platform. I like the way they feel, look, and shoot. Their ergonomics are excellent. The design has been around forever, because it works and is reliable.

Pro: single action
Con: single action, single stack
You have to decide for yourself if you like having a gun "cocked and locked" or not. People generally shoot 1911s very well.

revolvers fire without fail
if my life was on the line then this is what I want.
clip fed weapons can hold more rounds though and reloaded faster, but they jam.
so, if your home is going to be invaded by a platoon of degenerates go with the glock or maybe two.
