The Founders would cringe at this legislation. Even putting the god stuff aside (which is both incredibly stupid and unconstitutional), how can you include "that I take this obligation freely" in the oath and keep a straight face. This is the stupid shite that kills credibility with the GOP.

If House Bill 2467 becomes law, atheists would either not be allowed to graduate from high school, or atheists would need to lie in order to receive a high school diploma. But, hey, let's face it... seems like a good way to keep your brightest young people from advancing in society. Wouldn't want to upset the status quo.
I'm more concerned with how many are going to end up in poverty once they realize that their money has the word "God" on it. What a stupid fricking story. Speaking as an atheist, I hope they change it from "so help me God," to "so help me Jesus," just to really piss the little bastards off.

I did that...didn't like what I saw on the serious side. So, I'm going to just focus on the god stuff to keep my sanity.

Ahem. This thread is stupid BUT, your post is at least as stupid. There is nothing about being an atheist that requires acceptance of lying.

You're going to have to check with your local charter because I'm pretty sure we added it this year. We did add a stipulation, however, that requires you to tell the truth when asked about any God, god, gods, or the offspring thereof. We have our principles after all.

would you swear to allah in court, you don't believe but well, does it matter? this is stupid, this thread is stupider.

Ah yes ...this. The stupid it burns....or as we say in Arizona it's a dry burning. This has zero chance of passing, beyond the fact that it is hardly constitutional. But once again Arizona gets to rave to the rest of the nation how we are the bottom feeders when it come to brain power.

no one answered my question can't you ask to not swear on the bible in court? if you don't believe it has any significance, and swear in another way. it would seem simply allowing people to say something else at the end would be ok.

I'm pretty sure you could talk to the judge and say swearing on the bible or wearing to allah is against my religion, or I don't believe in religion is there another way I can swear without the bible.

let's say you couldn't, its either swear on the bible or contempt of court....like this law in 'zona is. would you swear? meaningless gesture, right? if you answer no, think about what it means to an atheist. I had REAL issues getting married by a pastor, like I was really upset about the whole thing. But my wife pleaded with me to get married (she is non believer) by a pastor as it would freak her family out if we didn't. I wish I hadn't caved as I still regret it to this day. The only vows I have ever taken seriously and I did them by lying. WTF type of person am I?

Is it ok if I ask this question of those insisting on needlessly putting God into an oath? If it doesn't matter, why is it inserted there?

Would it be silly if it said "Allah"? Just curious
