re: North Korean parents 'eating their own children'

I would love to go to the NK open golf tournament in May but it wouldn't be fun going alone and my golfing partner (retired military) is scared shitless of trying it.

I saw a fascinating video of an American visiting NK about 5 years ago with a hidden video cam. It was chilling. Think 3rd world version of East Germany's Stasi.

It's not so much that the people are convinced that Kim is God. It's that they know they are always being watched and if they give any indication of disrespect to Kim they will be killed.

Also, keep in mind that not only is the govt the only people with weapons, the NK military is one of the largest on the planet. And they get fed first.

you really need to educate yourself.

not only is their "president" a dead man, but their most recent dead dear leader was said to have been born on a sacred mountain, his birth foretold by a swallow, heralded by the appearance of a double rainbow, and a new star was created.

I liken it to a lifelong Saints SuperBowl victory.

Including the raised hands, the spiritual crying, the shouts of God is Great!

You keep saying that and yet I've pointed out supernatural qualities they believe these men have.

And I've pointed out they have numerous churches and temples throughout the country, including a Eastern Orthodox Church Kim Jung Il himself commissioned to be built in 2006. If the North Korean government wanted there to be a true religion devoted the Kims, there would be and there would not be anything else.

Like I said, you're mistaking political devotion for religious devotion bases solely on the amount of fanaticism involved.
what is divine other than what we make it. to them, hes GOD. thats all that matters
Well, it's true that reality is subjective. Ask Hawking. So everybody can pick their poison.

Regardless, I hate to have to expound on the philosophical apologetics for that version of *religion*. At least as having a happy ending.

What a world!

but if they do worship him as god, doesn't that somehow equate to Christianity being of the same fricked up strain of thought? At least in the logical bizzarro land known as the TD poli board?

Obviously if you can see past the kims, you would know that Jesus himself is the reason the NK's are in a land of famine and poverty.

I'm quite certain this was what Wiki and others were trying to do, albeit in a very absurd manner.

Please help me understand what you are saying here.

I've been to south Korea twice. There is some american DNA mixed in there also. Obviously, nutrition is the biggest factor, but Americans have been spreading DNA there for 60 years.

I just can't imagine how those people don't revolt.

Because these people are completely brainwashed. Older Chinese people don't really see a problem with NK and the way their people are treated, while younger ones who weren't around for "Good Times with Chairman Mao" think its just as horrific as we do. When you're brainwashed from birth to believe that the Earth cracked a mountain in half on the day of your Dear Leader's birth, then you'll believe anything.

I wonder how many of them actually believe this as opposed to just saying it to stay alive.

Plenty of Egyptians thought that the line of Pharaohs are descended from the Gods. Its not really that much different since no one is likely alive from pre-Kim Il Sung Korea to remember it.

LOL. The only thing more sad than a fool is a fool who's too stupid to know what he is. The most sure fire way to identify someone like this is when confronted with a differing opinion they resort to petty insults.

Yes, their devotion to their leaders is like what others would have for their deity, whatever god they worship. But what they are doing is different. They are not devoting themselves to a god or a religion. They are devoting themselves to their leader and the state. They know he is not a God. He is their leader.

Look no further than the fact that there are a handful of Christian churches and Buddhist temples. In fact Kim Jong Il himself had a Eastern Orthodox church built in Pyongyang in 2006. Now if a state really were brainwashing their people that their leaders were "gods" would these things go on? Of course not. The truth is that the state does not teach the Kims are divine nor is there a religion devoted to them. Their devotion is political, not religious.

Dude, just stop. Just because they don't go to church or read some sort of Bible doesn't mean they don't worship him. That is a very Western viewpoint of religion. You have no idea what you're talking about.

And Kim Jong Il was a well-known fan of fine art, movies, food, drink, and buildings. I'm thinking its more due to the fact he wanted some grand church in his country to look nice.

Stop? Really, you're the one talking out of your ass. They do adore him and from our perspective seem to worship him. But they do not consider him an actual fricking god. The government tells them everything they are to think. And if the government wanted the people to consider anyone as their "god" they would come out and say "Kim Jun Il is god and you will worship him as your god". They don't do that. They are called things like "dear leader". And while there has been some pretty absurd claims about the Kims, there has never been a claim of them being gods. Thus the cult of personality that is the Kim "dynasty" in North Korea is a political one and not a religious one.

And I love how you disregard the fact Kim jung Il had a Eastern Orthodox church built in the fricking capital of North Korea as "thinking its more due to the fact he wanted some grand church in his country to look nice." Are you aware there are a number of government sponsored religious groups in North Korea? None of them have any of the Kims as their "god". Have you ever actually studied religious matters in North Korea? Next time before opening you pie hole about something you don't have a fricking clue about you need to do some reading.

Actually, there is very little. The country is still over 95% homogeneous. Moreover, I don't think "American" is a DNA, nor would it account for any height differentials with the North. South Koreans are just taller than most other Asian nationalities.

I hate to break it to you, but North Korea is deemed an atheist state. In fact, it is one of the world's most religiously intolerant countries in the world, as it sees organized religion as a threat to its government.

Try as hard as you want to link religion with the oppressive North Korean regime, but it is the very absence of religion there that's noteworthy. Because religion cannot exist in North Korea, the people suffer. There is no voice of compassion to comfort the suffering. No charity to feed the starving. And no social justice to bring about reform.

You're also incorrect in your attempt to link the reverence of Kim Jong to an official organized religion. This "religion" of yours has no dogma, no reward in an afterlife, no spiritual tenets or guidance and no story of creationism. It's classic cult of personality exuberance.
