I think it's the ease with which the immoral can be accessed these days. I mean before the internet, cell phones, cable tv, etc. it took a lot more effort to find something to get into

Same old retread response. Always slavery and women's rights. I could name you 1000's of things that are immoral now, and you would site these same two. I'm not going to bother either. Enjoy your world.

It's not like abortion hasn't existed throughout history, but for the first time in history, slavery is reprehensible.

Abortion existing is reprehensible no matter the length of time its been "accepted" or practiced.

Even if that is your moral system fine. But slavery is no longer acceptable. Thus, progress.

Because most Americans have no problem w/ taking one person's property to give to another. Whether that is money (income taxes) or labor (healthcare is a ''right''), they actually think it's ''moral'' to do so.

' Not really. We have demonized a lot of things that once were considered normal. Like drug use, mistresses, prostitution, etc... I doubt we are more moral, since it's such a subjective and relative term but no worse, for sure.

True dat. I went thru high school and for the full 4 years there was only one girl who got pregnant - and the boy's parents made him marry her. I did not know anyone who had divorced parents. I'm sure there must have been a few, but I didn't know any of them. Everyone I knew had a father at home who worked. Of all my close friends, none of us have been divorced. All still married to our high school girl friends. I graduated in '56.

How many pregnant HS girls do you know Zach? Because, from my experience, they are generally ostracized for being pregnant. It's not something that gets celebrated.
Don;t know about Zach, but I teach in a high school. There are plenty of pregnant girls and all of them are celebrated - there is absolutely no shame attached to being pregnant, unmarried, and still in high school. I have known a couple who had two babies while in high school. However, I have observed that this year there are FAR fewer pregnant students than last year. I know of only three - last year there were a dozen. I would certainly like to know what your experience base is. Muslim?

I graduated from BRMHS little over a decade ago and we had one known pregnancy the entire time I was there. She wasn't really ostracized, but it definitely wasn't considered "cool". She was a transfer and wasn't all that popular to begin with. She ended up marrying the father.

I'll take a stab at this, and duck, although my intent is mediation. If slavery existed in today's society, we'd have a reality show about the slave owners. It would be "celebrated" despite the horrible social consequences of the behavior. Now since slavery is not allowed, we find other socially deplorable environments and give it a stage for our enjoyment. The fact it is enjoyed is the reason for the statement IMO

Teen Pregnancy at Lowest Rate Since 1946
quote:
The rate of teenagers becoming mothers is declining rapidly, according to a new report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The average teen birth rate decreased 9 percent from 2009 to 2010, reaching an all time low of 34.3 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 19. That's a 44 percent drop from 1991 to 2010. There were less teenage mothers in 2010 than any year since 1946.
quote:
What's behind the reduced rates? The CDC claims that the effective use at prevention messages has helped stop teenage pregnancy. Both increased use of contraception and use of two methods of birth control (usually birth control polls and condoms) at once have been observed.
that's progress i can believe in

Abortion rates decreasing, also
quote:
After years of holding steady, new Center for Disease Control data shows that the United States abortion rate has fallen to an all-time low. It dropped 5 percent between 2008 and 2009, the most recent years for which data is available, the largest decline in the past decade.
quote:
The CDC data can tell us a bit of this story. Alongside the drop in the overall number of abortions, the agency also found a decline in the abortion ratio. That figure measures the number of pregnancies terminated for every 1,000 live births. That number dropped too, from 232 in 2008 down to 227 in 2009, a 2 percent decrease. That suggests that the story here isn’t just about fewer pregnancies. We can see in the data that the decisions women make after becoming pregnant are playing a role, with more deciding to continue with the pregnancy rather than terminate.
Jan 2011 Fox News link about a short increase with an overall downward trend since the early 90s
quote:
The Guttmacher Institute, which periodically surveys U.S. abortion providers, reported Tuesday that there were 1.21 million abortions in 2008 and a rate of 19.6 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44. Both figures were up slightly from the previous 2005 survey, ending a steady decline since 1990, when U.S. abortions peaked at 1.6 million and the abortion rate was 27.4.

Get out of here with your facts! Somebody Starbucks told Zach that teen pregnancy is celebrated and therefore on the rise and ChineseIdiot saw a pregnant teen in some backwater therefore we are a morally bankrupt culture!
