re: Bryan Singer still not seeing how miscast the X-franchise was

Not so much miscast actors as misused actors. Academy Award caliber actors: Berry, Page, Paquin... other writers and directors get amazing performances from them.

Absolutely. Dealt with some very serious themes as well as being an all around solid superhero film.

The first X-Men was a good flick, especially since it kickstarted the whole superhero movie rebirth. Proved a comic book movie could be a box office draw. That movie basically gave us the last 12 years worth of nerdgasm. Don't hate.

Finally, Ill 100% agree with Magneto's portrayal in First Class. Nailed the character. I also love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, just hated the Origins movie. Singer got him to give a solid performance in Xmen2. Ratner and whoever directed the piece of crap Origins movie did not.

No, but the book didn't sell and what we think of as "the X-Men" didn't happen until Claremont re-cast it with his all-new, all-different international lineup. He wrote the book for about 20 years. As soon as he stopped writing, I stopped collecting. Now, I know the kids will like their era, and that's fine, but I'm just saying for me... Claremont IS the X-Men.

Given that the movies have used primarily his vision of the characters, in his universe, and his stories... Hollywood largely agrees. Claremont made the X-Men what they are. They are not the iconic figures they are if he doesn't take over the book, they would be on the same level as the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Defenders.

That's a lot of speculation.

Most of the Kirby/Lee/Ditko creations had deep lulls in their careers but were given a huge boost by new creators. If Claremont and Cockrum hadn't taken up the X-Men then someone else would've. It's a fact that the NEW X-Men as we know them wouldn't exist with out Claremont, Cockru, and Wein, but I doubt that a Kirby and Lee Silver Age Marvel team wouldn't have been revitalized by some other creative team. Just too many great characters and villains in that franchise to let go to waste.

That book is way better than I thought it would be. I'm not a huge Bendis fan so my expectations were fairly low. This one has me looking forward to Uncanny with Cyclop's squad.

I say I'm not a huge Bendis fan but, in hindsight, it was his M-Day crossover that really escalated Cyclops journey to where he is now and I'm a huge fan of that.

I love Claremont for the most part and quite frankly his version was status quo for the X-Men for a long time, but we are coming onto 15 years (and looks to be going strong) with of the Morrison/Whedon construction of X-Men. Once has been a long journey for Cyclops has completely changed the entire focus of the series, which it should be-he is the lead, the heir apparent and now working with his mentors rival it more interesting than anything Claremont did, IMO.

Beast was actually done by Ratner.

looking back, that whole franchise just got off on the wrong foot. I wish Marvel Studios had the rights to the X-Men so they could reboot and bring it in to the MCU, but that will never happen.
