But the fact still remains. If your #1 corner can shut down their #1 WR by himself, that frees up more people to do other things. i.e. you can double the slot or bring someone on a blitz

It still frees up a man no matter how you slice it.

I don't really get what you're arguing. Are you actually justifying that a dominant corner is worth paying what is near elite qb money?

I don't deny that having a great corner aids a defense. I maintain its not as useful as it was when fewer receivers were used and there were more traditional one on one match ups throughout the game. Those resources can be used much better .
