Comparing today's society and media and the effect it has on culture with the 70's is laughable at best

Couldn't have put it better myself. When I saw that a girl was getting famous for eating a tampon, I almost lost it. 37 and religious.

Yep, because most people were "trash" 50-60 years ago. The media has embraced "trashy" stuff though

I was referring in a whole about other shows, that was one example of one that glorifies trash. That one all you see is a kid with no respect and needs to be disciplined, instead we encourage and glorify it. Jersey Shore would be a good example of the type of show I'm referring to.

People who are lazy, immoral, broken families, drink party and just live life purely as someone who does nothing to give back to the community and lives on life's immoral pleasures.

Floyd (acided to insanity) and Zep (drank to death) and Jimi (pilled to death) and Janis (drugged to death) were CAUTIONARY TALES, not examples of how to live.INCREDIBLE Artistry aside, these were all seen at the time as cautionary tales. And of course, the American public had no real relationship with any of them other than their music. Today if Lady Gaga takes a dump, it's photographed from 47 angles and in front of our eleven years olds in minutes.

This is not a new phenomenon. It is just more visible in many ways. Many of the viewers of these shows do not seek to emulate - they watch in an odd sort of pity and amusement at the actions of some poor fricker.

you can basically repeat this with every musical scene in the 20th century at least musicians do lots of drugs and talk about it. kids love the counter-culture/rebelling aspect of it then they grow up idolizing that music and hate their kids' counter-culture/rebelling music wash. rinse. repeat.

you're just misremembering on purpose. why was it a huge deal when some band from england called the Beatles played on tv in the 60s?

Is it your assertion that these are decreasing because we have suddenly become more virtuous ? Or do you correctly understand that these two examples can be attributed to birth control with the former and demographics with the latter ?

We have just reached critical mass with Cultural Stupidity. Or should I say AmeriKKKA iz 2Stoopid4me ?
exactly..in other cultures, someone who says(for example): "Where are you going to be the next four days?" --and writes it like this: "Wea r u gon b da nxt fo deys" Would be isolated from society because people would consider him borderline mentally retarded. Stupidity is seen as normal, not widespread, but normal nontheless. And if you call out someone for being a complete idiot or saying something stupid, you are called a "bigot". It's funny really, but it's becoming the norm. Which is why it's disturbing

That's like saying the American public had no real relationship to MJ other than his hoops or Tiger than his golf. Duh.

i think that culture/society progresses over time i can't say that we're morally bankrupt when we as a group continue to have bad results that morality warns us about i'll take 100 honey boo boos if our crime keeps falling at this rate. wouldn't you? i'll take twice the # of kids sagging if fewer girls keep getting raped. wouldn't you?
