Will schools in Oregon and Colorado continue to test for Marijuana usage among their athletes? This could be a recruiting advantage for some schools looking at certain players. Now that it is legal, and not performance enhancing, what basis would the NCAA use to stop it?

I believe on the Federal level, it is still classified as an illegal substance. I don't really understand all the particulars but I'm certain the NCAA will continue to ban the substance.

Players drink on weekends and show up sober. They would not show up high, but they would fail any drug test if they had smoked in the past week.

Athletes that get scholarships to schools should look at it as a profession. They are basically getting "paid" to go to school and preform in there sport(s). They should act accordingly and follow school rules and NCAA standards. Anything less in unacceptable regardless if pot is legal in the state. Why wouldn't the schools still not drug test? These kids are representing the school. Even though they are kids, who makes mistakes, no double standard should be kept.

this has been an issue in jobs - depends on the company - stays in your system for over 30 days - & i do not think the ncaa is involved until you get to a chanpionship

the ncaa still sees it as a banned substance. regardless of the state law, athletes can't partake.

I think I can say with absolute certainty that Oregon will continue to the testing they started last year since marijuana is still illegal.

Colorado and Washington are different stories, since those are the two states that legalized marijuana.

In a sane logical world the NCAA would never test for a non performance enhancing, non addictive substance like MJ. Esp in states where it is legal. But that's not the world we live in and as long as you have dumbasses in charge who will down a 12pack of beer every weekend but don't know the difference between mj and heroin things won't change.

So the NCAA has authority and wields it in a retarded way. We know that. The OP just wanted to know if the NCAA would be less retarded for once.

I work for a national company and if I readccorrectly, they will still be drug testing employees and all rules apply as in the other 48 states. I would assume those universities will do the same. It may be legal, but they still have their own rules concerning usage.......

If you are an athlete that participates in NCAA athletics it would not matter if your school was located on a Marijuana farm. You have to pass drug tests to play in the NCAA.
