Scope crosshair, which one for what purpose

I am getting a 44mag handi rifle. Looking at scopes. Is there an advantage of one reticle over another?
Most shots will be 100 yards and in. I know nothing about scopes and which to choose for which application.
Or for that close does it really matter?

I usually purchase duplex for no other reason than that's what I prefer.

Those are some shitty reticles, but just get whatever one you like best. 100 yards and in wont make a big difference. If you were shooting out to 5-600 yards then the reticle you chose would matter.

I try to get the duplex with all of my scopes but that is just my personal liking. I am not sure that it makes a difference but the duplex is what I am comfortable with.

That's just a random pic from google. I didn't think it would make a big difference at close ranges but just curious.

Ahh. No, it won't make a difference. Any hold over can be calculated on just knowing the drop of your round at that distance. Like I said if you were shooting out to 500 yards mil dots become necessary.

You may want some bolder crosshairs if you are hunting in low light though. the duplex is good for this because the edges are bold making them easier to see.

Another vote for a duplex style reticle.

Cool, I'll keep that in mind.

I'd get an illuminated reticle. I have a Trijicon on my 35 whelen that has mil dots, and in the middle is an illuminated green dot. I was really impressed with how easy it is get on target.

I'm going to have to go check them out at cabelas, or where ever locally I can look at them. Never thought about illuminated.
Thanks
