I was into it until about 5 episodes ago and from there it has been a clusterfrick of epic proportions...
Its funny reading the comments on their facebook page, about half of them are bashing this season.

I liked the first season's plot a lot better, but I felt like it had a really weak ending.
This season's plot has been all over the place, and even though I felt that they rushed and copped out to tie up some of the story lines, I feel like tonight has the potential to be a great finale and tie a lot of stuff together. The preview makes it look great IMO

I'm nervous, but very excited.
I'm so confused as to why Alma went to the insane asylum for killing Grace when Grace is already "legally" dead.

I don't remember, but did they say that was the reason she was there? Or did Tate commit her because he thought she was going crazy and may hurt the kids?

They implied that it was due to her killing Grace, which makes no sense. When Tate told the story, he made it seem that was the reason.
But if not, why would he send her there? He knows how corrupt it is.

Damn, didn't even think of that. Good observation
ETA: Maybe it had to do with the kids as well, and she couldn't handle them bc she was so afraid of the aliens
Also the cops knew he was married to two women. So maybe when she murdered her the cops knew she was alive and well=send her to the asylum? My best guesses

I'm alone on this, but I think this season has been far superior to the first. The first season was great just because it broke every conceivable rule of coherent story-telling, so it was fun from its sheer batshit insanity. This season started the same way, but has been grounded by, honestly, a pretty outstanding performance by Jessica Lange. The scene with her and the angel of death in the diner was among the best things I've ever seen on TV. It's still an insane show, but there's now a definite logic running through it that grounds it and gives the show actual stakes.
And last episode's examination of survivor's guilt was f'n fantastic. Kind of creepy, but more profoundly sad. My wife hated it, though. It was way too slow paced. The AV Club had a great review of it, calling it either the best or worst episode ever, they weren't sure yet.

I started off defending this season because of the potential it had, but it jumped the shark...
I am very disappointed now. I haven't been excited for an episode in a while and am just finishing it out because I feel like I wasted a shite ton of time if I don't see how it ends

That's what I was saying. The cops probably know just because it is a small town. Not to mention I'm sure the women would go outside and be seen.
But it is interesting, if you're Kit.. What do you do when one of your lovers kills your legally dead lover?
Who do you call? Do you call? What do you do with the body? What do you do about the lover that killed? fricked up shite
