I wonder if he will discuss his intricate use of excel spreadsheets for bus scheduling and tracking.. Maybe he should spend his time drawing up the plan required when their fricking blackmail money grab tax passed last spring.

Why did the residents of Baton Rouge vote for this? Why did the residents re-elect the mayor who pushed for this after it did pass?

I find a amusing that a consultant was brought in to evaluate CATS and the final recommendation of the consultant was to sack the entire CATS Board.
They chose to disregard the recommendation.

wait, your taxes went up $1100 just for city bus service? That makes absolutely no sense, as that would raise probably close to hundred million in revenue.
was there anything else in the service?
BTR should definitely have bus service but that is ridiculous. The greater denver area spends about 400M on mass transit but it services millions of people.
Oh, and any mass transit service should have an iphone/android app. Makes it much easier to travel, although google maps does a pretty good job of this.

It was a 10.6 mil increase and is the biggest line item portion of my property taxes. ETA.. It may not be the largest but it feels like it The tax was restricted to a district within the city.

We did have service..crappy service but service nonetheless. CATs claims they were going to be out of money in July and thus would have to suspend service without the tax. Part of this stems from them losing the LSU contract because off extremely poor service.
The original plan called for a parish wide tax and vote Last November. The plan was comprehensive and something many felt was a reasonable request. More importantly, it was accompanied with a plan for the future, a model for where and how the money was to be spent and would have been absorbed Parish wide. For whatever reason ( doesnt matter at this point), The plan was scraped and a no plan proposal was put forth in a special election last spring to "save" CATs from the brink. There was no plan attached to this money. The Homestead exemption was suspended for this tax in theory.. Well anyone who knows anything knew that wasn't possible so now we have a new 10.6 mil tax increase, in a carved out district with less money than proposed, no plan and the same idiots in charge.

just checked the website, regular fare is 1.75, and senior citizen or people with a "handicap" are $.35, so force those people who do not use the system to pay more in taxes instead of asking those that do use the system to pay a fair fare, everyone else is paying more for transportation, hell $1.75 barely buys a 1/2 gallon of gas, much less the vehicle itself, insurance or maintenance and repairs

well that is some fricked up. Is it $10.6M increase or 10.6 mills?
