Are we sure he's not being sarcastic, as in, "Lady, we're talking human evolution here, not strains of bacteria"? I'd have to hear the whole thing, I guess. That said, nothing a politician says or does surprises me anymore.

Instead of riciculing the Senator why not take the opportunity to teach. I hear how people are so stupid, well, get off your (not specifically you carbola) self righteous arse and learn him up.

There's an overall ignorance of what evolution is and what it isn't, even with people who believe in evolution.

He doesn't want to learn. His mind is set in concrete.

Pretty sure it was this. He was more being a dick than a moron. This clearly backfired. Shame because I really like Walsworth.

I think he is trying to determine whether or not the teacher believed in Progressive Creationism in which proponents believe that while the rest of biology (E Coli) evolved over time through evolution; humans were divinely created by God and have not evolved. He may have been clarifying types of creationism. Idk.
What Louisiana really needs is a law that allows teachers to teach this very important information to students without interference from those pesky courts... ...wait a minute

I think he may have a point you guys are missing. If you believe that all life evolved from some pool of chemical compounds then somewhere along the line you must believe single cell organisms had to evolved into more complex life and latter into man. Now I believe in evolution--I have seen it. Like the teacher explains bacteria evolve very quickly. However I have not seen any proof of inter species evolution. No fish to squirrels or chimps to man let alone a single cell organism to a complex warm blooded organism. Nothing that would preclude me from believing in creationism. It is mind boggling to consider that life evolved randomly from nothing. I once had a professor that said the chances that a tornado strikes a junk yard creating an intact 747 are less than the chances that life evolved randomly.

Since we're talking evolution, creation and the single (simple?) cell, take 12 minutes and tell me what you guys think about this... LINK

I like his sarcastic approach to this "high school teacher" expert witness. Really...you're a high school teacher AND an expert in evolution. That must be a hell of a burden to know you're that smart and still just teaching high school biology. This teacher must have her own adgenda to be up at the capitol giving testimony.

I'd like to add one other thing too... Is growing up "evolution"? Like if I used to be a toddler 40 some odd years ago, but now I'm a studly alpha man, did I evolve or did I grow up? If we took, say 100 people, and froze 10 of them at 10 year intervals for 50 years, and let the remaining 50 keep on going... what does that say about evolution?

I don't think the senator is really literally asking if humans evolved from E Coli.
Yes, yall are idiots for taking this literally. However, he is an idiot to believe that all believe evolution literally means humans evolved from microrganizisms (however you spell it).

So what does it (by it, I mean evolution) say humans evolved from?

It doesnt, it just states things evolve, grow, adapt. Doesnt define the being of humans.
