re: Thoughts on getting a puppy (Updaqte page 5)

What are the reasons you prefer a female?

Smaller, the male bond, etc.?

Drew Orleans,

Get from a reputable breeder. My male's mom was actually flown to germany to be breed with his dad. Then flown back over to US to have puppies. Paid a lot for him but sometimes you get what you pay for. Shepherds are notorious for having health problem so make sure you get a health guarantee. Has a long line of grand champion and national championships in his bloodline. As well as championships in shutzhund training as well. Our female is from Colorado but doesn't have the recognition like our male but cost a lot less as well.
Need any info on the breed would be more than happy to help you out.

greater bond

In my humble opinion, the greatest bond come from which human is the "alpha dog". Since most dogs want to please their humans, they are going to gravitate to the human that asked the most from them. Also, the first few hours after separating the pup from a litter makes a big impression to. The bond that is created in those hours is very strong and irreversible.

But I agree with getting females. They are so much easier to train. Males can be very hard headed and stubborn. By in large females aren't as pretty, but I think they are smarter and easier to train.

makes no fricking sense to pay out the arse for a pure bred when there are perfectly fine dogs and puppies in shelters who need homes

Thank man. I really appreciate it.

You have an e-mail you don't mind putting up then take it down before the OTards get to it?

This is very true. I am definitely alpha in my house but my fiancé did create that bond with our male when we took him home for the time and I'm sure that's why he prefers her.

But our cat knows what's up bc he fricking loves me!

Drew, as for wanting females I just think they're easier to train and overall cause less issues in the living environment.

I'll be upgrading my living situation soon and as soon as I move I am getting a big dog.

A female golden retriever and naming her Drew.

Get him. I am not trying to talk you out of one. They are just hard headed when they are younger. They have "other things" on their mind. It just takes more patience. Remember, their attention span will tend to be shorter. If they start hauling ass, don't get on to him too hard. He just smells a bitch in heat. Build an additional few minutes in to training. He'll have to mark ever blade of grass.

BTW, I have been looking around shelters.

My next dog will almost certainly be a rescue.

As long as he doesn't mark the whole damn house, I'm good.
