Ok. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. The guy is just exercising his rights. He probably doesn't beat his wife, or have 50 guns, or watch Rush Limbaugh.

I'd sure hate for someone to say "I work in a penitentiary (or, with inner city intervention issues)...therefore, that black dude by the helicopter is a thug stealing the electronics from it"

That's REALLY dumb. Many people take flag protocol seriously, and basically he is crying wolf when there is no wolf. You should only fly the flag upside down when you NEED someone to literally come to your aid. It is NOT supposed to be used as some dumb-assed, cynical political statement.
I'd be knocking on his door every morning asking if he needs assistance until he remedied it.

I can see that. I see the former as "I love what our Country was, but it is changing in a way I disagree with." I see the latter as saying "I disagree with what our country is doing or representing, and I want it to change".
In both cases, the speaker cares enough about the country to make a dramatic statement about it.

It's called free speech. You know, that thing called the first Amendment.
Meanwhile Obama wants to eliminate the Second Amendment then you will no longer have the First Amendment as well.
