At the time LSU got the commitment from Mathieu he sure was a "diamond in the rough." He got his hype from the Tennesse Camp which was more than a month prior to LSU offering/his commitment. If he was so highly sought after then he would have gotten many more offers during that period. LSU saw the "diamond in the rough" early and capitalized on getting him to commit before other teams figured it out.
