The refs did NOT screw us in that game.
Really because their were 2 blatant PI's that weren't called even though they directly affected major plays. The pass into the end zone near the end of the 1st half which Davis, IIRC, would have caught if he didn't have his arms held pinned to his side by the defender. And of course the PI at the end that was called and then waived off.

It still pisses me off that the refs' office came out and released a public statement after the game justifying what they did. It was clearly wrong. The rule has never been interpreted that way, and it doesn't even make sense to try to interpret it that way. It's the type of thing that makes one jaded about CFB officialdom.

People forget that we had a pretty bad O-line for the first half of the season that didn't start coming together until the Tennessee game that year. By the Arkansas game, we were the best team in the country. If the 'fixed' Oline shows up in the Auburn game then even the refs couldn't save the cheaters.

Let's not forget Hester catching the ball, taking two steps, and picking up the 1st down well inside Auburn territory but the refs called it an incomplete pass after reviewing it.

Just thinking of that call pisses me off. Also, this game ended 7-3 and many people, including game day, called it an amazing game. The kind of game that was a defensive war and was one in the trenches. Yet when we played Alabama, it was called a snooze fest. Never noticed that until just now.

Spot on. 2006 was underachieving big time. The refs screwed us against AU no doubt and even stole a TD against Florida (phantom hold) and as a matter of fact almost screwed us against Tenn (remember the punt that clearly hit the Tenn returners arm but refs decided to suspend the laws of physics?) but even still the offense was inconsistent.

I know, right? JR goes 20-36, for 223 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT, against Ole Miss, and somehow LSU still has to go into OT 20-20 against that putrid team ... at home? WTF!?! And LSU was losing 20-7 in the 4Q. Something was clearly wrong there.

One of those loses was on the road against the team that won the BCS CG, which would indicate they were pretty good as well.

Go back even further to 02 and 04. Jimbo was running a shite show then.

Sure Florida was good but LSU should've been better. On paper LSU was probably the best team in the country and this was the most talented LSU roster I've ever seen.

Actually, if you look at 2006 and 2007 side-by-side, 2006 may have been the more impressive season. The two games we lost were on the road to Auburn and eventual national champion Florida whereas our two losses in 2007 were to Kentucky and at home to an 8-5 Arkansas team. The difference was the early season 47-0 win over Va. Tech and some fortunate once-in-a-quarter century type circumstances that propelled us into the title game.

Didn't realize that. Plus I think the sec was stronger in 2006 bc AU, Arky, and Tenn were all much better than now.

SEC was brutal that year. 2007 really didn't have any good teams in college football

We were more than capable of beating Florida, but we didn't show up to play

Define "hurt." The same 5 that started against Notre Dame started against Ole Miss. The only difference from 2006 to 2007 was that Brian Johnson & Peter Dyakowski got replaced by Lyle Hitt & Carnell Stewart. The 2007 O-line was a little better at run blocking, but there's not really a huge difference there.

In 2007 the best teams were LSU, UGA and USC. And really USC and UGA were looking better than LSU by the end. Thank god eyeball test didn't exist then. But I agree there was a lot if parity that year and a lot of good teams but no great teams.

That's what I'd thought. It was amazing how LSU could look like an nfl team one week then struggle the next.
