With Sony ditching age old controller design, will people defect to XBox?

I will certainly consider it. The entire reason I have stuck to the PS over the years is solely because of the controller design. I have always hated the XBox design and LOVED the PS design. The fee for online play has never had anything to do with it since I have had multiple WoW and SWTOR accounts for years. Now that it is going to be changing, I may consider going with a new system to change loyalty to since XBox doesnt seem to have these extended periods of down time like PSN is having currently.

Will this change affect any of the rest of you who currently are loyal to the Sony brand or will you stay with them anyway?

Interesting, I've always thought that the PS dual analog layout was odd. Coming from the generally awful original xbox controller design, I thought the 360 design was a big leap foward. However, I think the controller design is very low on most peoples lists for console jumping.

I'm loyal to Sony/PlayStation regardless, but I like you HATE the 360 controllers and LOVE the PS2/3 controllers.

Even if the PS4 is a completely new controller, there will be plenty of 3rd parties that make a PS3 style controller, the demand will be there even if the new controller is good.

Really, the biggest part of that article is

After reading some of the comments, I wonder what Sony will come up with.

Anyone remember the last the time they tried to go away from the dualshock?

The one they shared with Nintendo? A legacy award.

Beats me, just says they won an Emmy in that same article.

It wasn't for any technological innovations, just a legacy award for all they've done for controllers. I wont try to denigrate Sony because they have done a lot to integrate the two analog sticks which was needed.

I like the base idea of what the article says, including a touch screen into the controller similar to the WiiU to mimic the layout/feel of how a Vita is used.

Basically having a Vita built into the controller, in terms of XMB navigation and such.

If implemented correctly I'd really like that I think.

I wish we could see some dimensions for that screen though.

If its got a touch screen like wii u then you probably won't be able to use a standard controller. Games will be designed to use the screen, which will make porting games over from xbox difficult if they don't use a screen.

They could make a new controller design that implemented a touch screen that had the same feel as the current controller. They could just keep the controller layout they have now and add to the top of it and put the screen there. That would honestly be the only way I would probably stay with Sony on this. The controller is literally the ONLY reason I have stayed with them so far. If they change that, I have no reason not to go with the superior online network of the XBox. I will keep my ps3 to play blurays on but use the XBox for gaming and just get used to the controller I guess.

a lot of people have speculated that the ps4 would actually use the VITA as a controller in order to increase sales of the VITA, and hopefully push sony in the portable market..

as an owner of a VITA, the thing is extremely nice, and I have 0 problem with this.
