Well, Obama may expand the current taxes on gun ownership but hee certainly did not pioneer the idea. discriminatory background checks and licensing fees are taxes just the same as what you pay when you buy retail or when you get that fat bonus check.

discriminatory background checks
Define this? Not even trying to pick a fight. Just wondering because I have never heard this phrase uttered recently.

I have a massive problem with them spending taxpayer money to buy legal guns off the street.
I disagree with your premise. "Spending taxpayer money", by simply reducing a tax, presumes that all money belongs to the government. Governments have no money but that which they confiscate. Allowing a substitution of a good for cash merely changes the terms of the confiscation. It does not spend taxpayer money.

No problem. All background checks discriminate in one way or another. The purpose is to gather information about your past to determine if you are worth the risk in question. So for instance, if you are a convicted felon then you are limited as to which firearms you may purchase. Felons are being discriminated against. This seems great when you only mention the positive side. How easy would it be to then change the discriminatory criteria and prevent someone with a history of alcoholism, or too many traffic accidents, or a member of an unpopular political party from purchasing a gun? Maybe even a person with a history of certain web searches. If this seems far fetched then look at the current push by all sides for more restrictions on mentally ill patients. How will this be enforced? National database, mandatory psych screening? Those are all intrusions I do not support. This coupled with the fact that mandatory background check is a presumption of guilt requiring proof of innocence. Which I also disagree with.

I have no problem with a tax credit for those who voluntarily turn in their own fire arms.
I don't have a problem with gun buy back programs, especially if they're just providing tax credits. People that really like their guns and will be responsible about owning them, aren't going to give the government shite. The only guns the government is going to get are going to be guns people don't really want, or guns from people that need quick money, exactly the type of guns that find their way to the black market.

Why don't you support these? Mentally ill people do not need firearms . Especially when talking about certain weapons.

For several reasons. Most simply because I do not believe that the federal government can accurately determine who is mentally capable of owning a firearm. Attempts to prohibit seem to have rate of failure regardless
