So if he's gettin hoaxed, it supposedly started in 09. So that means that somehow, for three years, Manti got scammed. Just how much money did it take for all the flying, driving, texting, that was needed to keep this spinning for this much time? Seems nobody had a real job, where and why would any one spend the resources to do this in the first place?

Exactly, the only nutty conspiracies I've heard are the ones that assume manti was hoaxed

He knew, at the very least, that she wasn't dead on December 6th. On December 8th he comments that he lost both his grandmother and girlfriend to cancer.
I can't really speculate on it without hearing it for myself.

But maybe he was asked some question and wanted to respond about losing somebody to cancer. He was thinking of his grandma, but knew he also had to mention his "girlfriend" since everybody thinks she died of cancer, too.

How did Manti's new gf feel about his constant references to the love of his life dying of cancer?

I'd love if someone in the media would ask her but nobody wants to do any actual journalism on this story.

Even doing this, with the help of at least two others as reported, for a few months is exhausting. I can understand getting suckered for a couple weeks or so. But it went beyond a seemingly reasonable length of time to be fooled.

No. Throw all that out. He made that up to embellish the relationship due to his embarassment of it being online and that he never met her.

I don't know why this guy does this or why he gets his jollies off of this non-sense, and how he gets other people to go along with it, but this guy is a nut-job.

Believable, and possibly true.

But he had to seek out and recruit other nut jobs to pull off the hoax. Christ that is just fricking weird that his "cousin" or whoever played lennay while supposedly on the phone with Manti was also THAT big of a nut job to go along with the hoax as well. If money wasn't the motive, why does she go a long with this for more than a day or two?

He only knows this guy Roniah through "Lennay Kekua".

He wasn't friends with him first, and he thought he was a relative of his girlfriend.

Then why'd he say on Twitter he hates cancer because he lost his grandma and gf to it?

I read the blog post on the South Carolina baseball player who met some girl which turned out to be a hoax and the relationship (if you can even call it that) lasted over the span of a several years.

From what I can gather from Te'o's words, the hoax began and was spread out. Probably not much talking during the first year or two, then when the "accident" happened, that's when Ronaiah did work. Seems to me he could have just trolled hard for several months, then killed her off. Doesn't seem too far-fetched.

I don't think that is completely accurate.

He didn't start seriously talking to this girl until May of 2012, I believe. She "died" in September.

So 4 months.

Maybe money is the motive.

I have no idea since I can't "get inside the mind" of a con-artist or a nut-job.

I can however completely see where Manti is coming from. I've never had an online relationship, but I can imagine that if I did that I would probably feel like he did about it.

Lennay kekua doesn't exist so he doesn't know anyone through her. To believe this your have to be willing to believe that she made the introduction through twitter, telephone, email and that he was stupid enough to not question why after 3 years he still hasn't met his online gf but he is meeting her cousin and roniah.

OR

You could believe that he and roniah are friends havin met through the same social circles

Oh man. It just gets deeper. How many lies have been told in this ordeal? I think they made their quota.
