Well, since starting 1-5-1, the Caps are now 3-3-0 in their last six. So they've stopped the bleeding, but only against bad teams. Their next six are against the Bolts, the Rangers, the Devils (twice), the Canes, and the Flyers. 3-3-0 is about the minimum the Caps can go in that stretch, and even then, you're still taking on water. The Caps actually need to go 4-2-0 over the rest of the month. That would bring them to 8-10-1. Still in trouble, but no longer in dire straits.

This stretch will determine the season for the Caps. Hopefully Brooks Laich is back soon. Could really use his style of play (crash the net, defensive minded, good face off guy).

Karlsson out for the season with an Achilles injury. That sucks for Ottawa. He's a great talent and the NHL needs more guys like him.
AP caught it on film. F the Pens.

It was pretty gruesome looking, happened while I was watching.
Cooke hit him up against the boards and his skate blade went right across his achilles, tried to put pressure on it when he got up and just screamed.

Meanwhile not even 10 minutes into the game Dallas is down 0-3 to Calgary. The power play has given up goals on both chances.
But at least on Friday the owner gets to see them when they come to Vancouver.

Matt Cooke is a fricking embarrassment and should be kicked out of the NHL. I mean, how many people is this guy going to be allowed to recklessly injure. He ran Mark Savard in the head, pulled a knee on knee hit on Ovechkin, and suspended for illegal hit to Artem Anisimov, Scott Walker, Fedor Tyutin, AND Daniel Paille. How many more people is this guy gonna be allowed to injure? Hell, even the NFL managed to kick Chuck Cecil out of their sport.
He is without a doubt the dirtiest player in professional sports. Someone should give him the Ulf Samuelsson treatment.
Where's Tie Domi when you need him?

Matt Cooke hasn't been dirty for years now.
And nothing dirty about that play either, freak incident that happens in hockey.
Part of the game.

Didn't Cook end a Boston Bruins player's career?
Forgetting his name..

Tell that to Ryan McDonough. You know, the guy he elbowed in the face in March of 2011. Remember that suspension he got? For the rest of the season? Wow, he went a WHOLE SEASON without a suspension? But know he's not dirty because Saint Crosby vouches for him?
Screw that guy. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. He's been suspended for dirty hits SIX times in his career, and that's not counting him getting off for targeting Ovie with a knee on knee. He's the dirtiest of dirty players, and goons like him should be drummed out of the game.
Matt Cooke doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. He hit a guy from behind while lifting up his leg and then bringing it down. It was reckless. And now the NHL is short one of its youngest, and brightest stars.
The Penguins should be ashamed to employ that douchebag.

Correct, completely different player, love him.

Used to be, about 2 years ago.

Wrong.

Also wrong.

The rumor is, after Tie Domi sucker punched Ulf Samuelsson in the face, during the run of play, the league took up a collection to pay his fine.
That's what you get for ending Cam Neely's career, a-hole. Congrats Cooke, you're finally a big enough villain to be mentioned in the same breath as Ulf Samuelsson, the dirtiest player in NHL history.

Here's the video. Hit from behind. Look at his skate in the air and then lowered. If it was Random Player X, I'd believe it's an accident. Matt Cooke? No f'n way. The guy has a rap sheet longer than my.... well, it's long.

No it's not, do you play hockey? How can one be this ignorant good fricking god you are a douche. Skating side by side battling for a loose puck in the corner = HIT FROM BEHIND!!! frick no.
Not even close to a hit from behind.

Yeah that's what happens when you get shoved in hockey, again, you must not play the game because you obviously have no fricking clue what you are talking about.

LOL.

I did. I've given my share of dirty hits, too. They aren't shoulder to shoulder. Hell, look at the picture. Cooke is clearly behind Karlsson. And it's not like he cut the near leg if they were shoulder to shoulder, he cut the left leg... the far leg.
Watch that skate blade. It's reckless as all hell. If they were next to each other, why didn't he cut the near leg instead of going across his body?
And like I said, Cooke does not get the benefit of the doubt. He's had way too many dirty hits.

The frick if they're not, they both interlock their arms and shove each other into the boards, Cooke was actually closer to the puck than Karlsson.
In fact, both skaters go to one skate for leverage because they are shoved against each other heading into the board, Karlsson lifts his right skate off the ice and plants with his left, and Cooke lifts he left and plants with his right, unfortunately Cookes comes down on Karlsson's leg.
Nice try though, at least now I know you're type going forward in this thread.

Yes. I am the type of person who finds Matt Cooke a repugnant player who has a long rap sheet of reckless play and injuring players, and am outraged he's injured one of the league's budding superstars. An Achilles injury could ruin his career.
ETA: Bryan Murray's take on the hit: "It's Matt Cooke. What else should I say? Watch the replay." Yeah, but what does he know about hockey? H's just the Senators GM, and had a 17 year coaching career. But he has no idea what he's talking about either.
