Brandon Jennings on Kobe: "Best defense played on me in the NBA"

Brandon Jennings was held to 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting by Bryant, and Milwaukee's young star emerged from Staples Center with newfound respect for the fifth-leading scorer in NBA history. "I don't think I've ever seen anybody put that much pressure on a point guard full court for a whole game," Jennings said. "It was probably the best defense somebody's ever played on me since I've been in the league -- just constantly putting pressure on me, touching me, hitting me at all times in the game. He wouldn't let me just catch the ball easy, and I wasn't able to get the ball a lot, so it was pretty difficult.

Good to see there's some sense of urgency on defense now. Earl Clark has really stepped up defensively, and Dwight has posted his two best games of the year. He's put up 53/30 on 23/29 shooting against the mighty Cavs and Bucks. Lakers with two straight wins over bad teams

Just realized Jennings sounds like a sexual assault victim here

Said it a number of times, but the Lakers WILL make the playoffs.
Kobe ain't gonna let that team just play like they've been playing this season with that much talent.

Dwight being the center of attention during a winning streak could do wonders for the lakers. Kobe needs to revert back to playing robin to the big man's batman for the lakers to win big again.

That's a good point, and I agree. Kobe should know by now that you have to keep the big guy happy, so the Lakers really need to establish Dwight early. The offense flows much better with an athletic forward (Clark) and Dwight than the Pau/Dwight clusterfrick.

They look so much better without Pau's slow arse at the 4. I doubt Clark can keep up his shooting, but his athleticism at the 4 makes a world of difference. It's too bad he'll go back to riding the bench when Pau comes back and the Lakers will go back to looking old.

So it took Kobe 17 years to finally give enough fricks to play defense once?

I was wondering how much Kobe paid Jennings to say that

Kobe has made the All Defensive team 12 times.
I don't understand the thread. He's regarded as one of the best defenders in the NBA.

Kobe's overall defense has dropped off a bit over the past 3 years. He is clearly no longer a 1st team All Defensive player at this point in his career. He is still a very good on ball defender and has shown that when it comes to a marquee matchup, he can turn on the lights and shut guys down. The only problem is that I am not sure he can do it on a nightly basis anymore. With the scoring load that he places on his shoulder every night, the Lakers will have to pick and choose their battles with whom Kobe defends.

Is that supposed to be some impressive feat?

Good to hear. Thats what pisses me off about perimeter defense in the NBA. IMO it takes more skill to play defense down low, but frankly its 90% effort on the perimeter, just f'n hustle.

Playing hard defense a few times in a 82-game season doesn't qualify

He's made the NBA all-defensive first team a bunch of times.
This notion that Kobe is a 1 dimensional volume scorer is inaccurate.
