I disagree. I don't see any effort in the media or in the community by the "middle-class" to send a message against the destructive pop culture that is holding back the development of the black urban population. It is almost like they are content to sit quietly in the shadows and hope the culture doesn't catch up to them. They are no different from the middle class whites who continuously move further away from the city whenever the poorer segment starts to get too close to them.

As usual, Coulter is full of shit, but right-wingers predictably lap it up without fact-checking her. FYI, the incarceration rate of of Belgium is 91 per 100,000 compared to 349 per 100,000 among White Americans. However, the White American rate is comparable to the incarceration rate of Eastern European countries like Russia, Ukraine and Latvia, but my guess is that she was talking about Western Europe. By the way, England has the highest incarceration rate in Western Europe with a rate of 148 per 100,000 which is still less than half the rate of White Americans. On the low end are France, Germany and the Scandanavian countries which all incarcerate less than 100 per 100,000.

I promise you that I am not flaming. I genuinely mean it when I suggest you haven't been paying attention or that you don't know enough black professionals firsthand. All of them I know have no sympathy for the hoodlums, raise their kids right and do what they can in their neighborhoods. I'm not sure what you want them to do.

I have known quite a few black professionals in my lifetime I assure you. 32 years in the oil & gas business if you will. I don't disagree that the black middle-class is doing what you say. I am talking about the business and community leaders being out in the forefront in the local media and in community meetings trying to take a stand for improvement. I strongly suspect that the national "leaders" (e.g. Sharpton, Jackson, etc.) and their accomplices in the media are trying to keep the status quo for their own personal enrichment.

There are literally dozens of groups in New Orleans doing the very thing you are talking about. Seriously. There really are. Their activities are pretty well publicized in the news, but I suspect most white people don't notice it or tune it out (I don't mean that as an accusation . . . I just don't think it resonates with them).
ETA: I've said this before, but Sharpton and Jackson are of little relevance on the local level . . . at least around here.

I've no doubt that many decent blacks are vocal about and have issues with the social pathologies in the black community. That's my experience with the blacks I know.
It's just as you say. They don't resonate. Part of the reason they don't resonate is the other thing I've witnessed my entire life. If you are a well spoken, well behaved, reasonably successful black man who decries the problems in the community, you are called VERY bad names by that community.
I don't envy those fellas. I acknowledge that there are challenges to being a black in our nation still and it pretty much sucks arse that if you don't act like you are "supposed" to, that black culture repudiates you.

Murder rates in Belgium are actually fairly high for western european standards and I suppose that's why she used it as an example. The murder rate is 1.7/100,000. The US rate is 4.8/100,000. Not sure exactly what the rate breakdown is by race but common sense would tell you those rates are probably pretty close when adjusted. I think at one time the homicide rate by blacks was over 50. That would be a problem in guatamala city.

48% of all murder arrests are of black individuals. Blacks comprises around 12% of the population. So, yeah. They're going to end up pretty close.
Also. Keep in mind, she didn't mention blacks. The rate is also higher for hispanics over whites. That would bend the number down further.
Bottom line. The crime rate for white people is very comparable to Europe. People can bitch all they want to and say it's racist to talk about. But, that aint changing reality.

I agree but with that said I'm glad that murder rates are dropping in all racial groups. Black murder rate is at a historic low after the nightmare that was the 80's/90's. Progress is being made I guess.
