How does this work exactly? I'd be interested in doing this but I dk what kind of quality writing I could do for 40 movies

It's simple. You post a ballot of Top xx movies (probably 40) when asked. Nothing else to voting. I want as many people as possible to vote.

Optionally, you can offer to write a few paragraph/summary/reaction/reflection to somewhere between 1 and 3 films. I would never ask anyone to write 40 of them. Except Baloo and probably have written that many over the years. See the 1970s sticky thread for examples.

It's not really hard at all.

Now the Point/Counterpoint is new, so yeah, that could be interesting.

Any other answers to the questions?

Trilogies. Can they be one entry, or do I have to mention them multiple times?

I can never get everyone to follow the same rule, so the new rule will be:

1) Do whatever you feel is right. If A Movie is Better/worse than others because of a trilogy, rank it as such.

2) If you really believe the movie stands alone, rank it as such.

3) The HIGHEST rated film of a trilogy or series will have the annotation /(Trilogy/Series) Attached, making sure that people know as a whole they rated at this point. But it will not deter overall rankings.

If this happens in the Top 10, then the writer/blurb will get special attention.

So then Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back shall be separate (Return of the Jedi is hardly top 40 material), while The Lord of the Rings shall be one then.

When are y'all planning to do this?

Only reason I ask is because the 70s one JUST finished up, so jumping right into another one seems like overkill IMO. Might wanna wait a while.

Of course, that's just a friendly suggestion. Feel free to ignore it if y'all think I'm wrong.

Nope, not ignoring at all. I'm planning to wait about 4 weeks or so.

I just want to get the specifics down and people thinking about it.

Bump for more suggestions.

I must've missed youre response to me last month. 4 weeks?

How often do ya'll plan on cranking these things out? Seems like one (laybe two) a year at most.

Also, can you post a list of all the lists done so far?

Yeah, almost to the day. I'm usually not so punctual.

They generate good discussion and good post counts. Last year was only two, two years ago I think we did 4.

I think 2-4 is fair. I'll probably hit three this year. This one. 60s in the Mid-Summer then something in the Fall/Late-Fall (Sports and/or Actors)

You agree?

I think 40s and 30s will be more or less a moot point.

This could be good for discussion, I know we don't all agree on the defination of villain.

Yeah, I don't really think that Hannibal Lector (at least from Silence of the Lambs), is a villain. He has a villainous nature to be sure, but he's not the antagonist of the story.
