Raph is a beast, agreed. We need more like him on the team. If you think we are a batting power, then you haven't been to or seen a game in about 3 or 4 years. So suck my tiger dick, bitch.

Yeah that outfield is much faster than this years considering who is playing left.

We'll be picking a lot of Cotton this season.

I would bet money that opening weekend will be
Friday: Nola
Saturday: Eades
Sunday: Cotton
Closer: Rumbelow
Middle Relief: Bourgeois/McCune
Midweek Starter: McCune

I could see McCune possibly taking over as Sunday starter if he can get back to his 2011 form. I think Cotton will play a role similar to that of Jared Bradford throughout the season. The closer role will be up in the air and could/will change throughout the season IMO. We really don't have a shut down guy like freshman Matty Ott or Nick Goody.

All in all, if Eades gets back to his 2011 and Cape Cod POY form, he'll be fine. I honestly think he was just exhausted last year, having never thrown that much in his life before. He has good stuff, and I expect him to be good this year. If he is, we have as good a Fri/Sat combo in the conference. Nola was unhittable all summer with a 2-0 record (2 starts) in 11 IP with 15 Ks, 2 BB, and only 5 hits surrendered. He also looked the same in the fall. He should be an All-American type sure fire Friday starter.

Broussard had Tommy John last year and is out for the 2013 season.

I do not think Cotton will start the first Sunday of the season. I believe the coaches hope to keep him in the bullpen. He is probably more of a last resort Sunday starter. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point.

PM sounded pretty confident that Sciambra would be CF to start the season in his interview with Tiger Rag.

LULZ that you keep spelling it this way.

BTW, I agree with you that Cotton will probably be a last resort for Sunday starter, but given that he is the only pitcher on the squad with three letters, he may very well get a ceremonial start for the first weekend series.

I would prefer for McCune or one of the freshmen out of HS to get the Sunday role.

The relief by committee approach worked very well last season, and I think Mainieri & Dunn should use that approach again this season. (EDIT: And Cotton could play a very useful and substantial role as part of that relief committee.)

I need to learn to spell that kids name right

I agree with you on the Sunday starter role. I really liked how we treated the bullpen last season. We have a plethora of strong arms in the bullpen. Cotton was by far the most effective.

i just think cotton will start the season as the sunday starter while we try to figure out who fits there best. i think he'll be used in a variety of different ways as the season progresses. he definitely showed he can give a solid 5 innings of work in the south carolina series last year, and if we can be assured of a solid 1/2 punch wit nola and eades, our sunday guy isn't going to need to go deep into games.

It's crazy to think that nobody on the team has been to the CWS before.

I think Katz, Edward, Cotton, & Bourgeois are the only players who were on the roster from that 2010 team that went down at the UCLA regional.

Fwiw I liked your Bradford comparison to him. I honestly feel like we have a few of those guys who could fit that role. Whether is be Cotton, Bonvillan, Bourgeois, and McCune. All can fit into that role IMO.

I talked to Ryan Eades a few days ago. Nola fri, Eades Saturday. Sunday pitcher is still open and so is closer.

We got hosed in that regional. We should have never been in UCLA to begin with and certainly not with Irvine being the #3.
