A buddy and I were arguing last night over who was the better actor of the two. I said Leo, he said Damon.

Some of the criteria behind my pick were: range of characters (Damon always seems to play the good guy, whereas DiCaprio has displayed the ability to play the antagonist), selectivity of roles, and quality of films.

His main argument was that while Damon has been in some questionable movies, his best films rival that of DiCaprio's.

What does the Movie Board think?

Here are both actors' filmographies:

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leo is the better actor.

However, Damon's lows arent as bad as Leo's.

I suppose there is a reason Damon isn't approached for big movies nearly as often as Dicaprio. This really isn't even a debate.

Leo definitely is better, but Damon isn't exactly dragging movies down himself. You can't go wrong with either, Leo just has more range.

That was one of my main points. Leo has played both good guy and bad guy roles, although he doesn't really do comedies, like Damon does occasionally.

Is this a joke? Comparing a top tier actor to overrated filth...give me a break. Your friend is a retard. Matt Damon has like 2 good performances in his life

yeah I can't think of a movie since Good Will Hunting that Damon was irreplaceable in. Dicaprio is in nearly half his movies.

That was actually how the argument started.. talking about which tier each actor falls on.

Leo (not even close)

Side Note: I have seen Matt Damon's IMDB. Adding that he was an extra in Field of Dreams is pretty low from an actor who has done so much work. That is something you see career long extras do to build their resume.

I didn't think actors maintained their own IMDB page.

So many of those roles Damon couldn't pull off. I can't think of a single Damon role that Leo couldn't pull off. Maybe the bourne movies just cuz that would be kind of ridiculous. Well I kind of take that back. I guess Damon can pull off comedy which Leo has never really tackled.
