Me and a couple of buddies going to the movies tonight. Which would you recommend? I've wanted to see Django for awhile but I've heard good things about ZDT?

Zero Dark Thirty! Both are excellent, but ZDT is better IMO.

By the same token. . . Spoiler alert: The slave goes through great hardship but wins in the end.
But we both know there's more to these stories than that.
Bottom line: OP, you can't go wrong with either choice!

Im a huge Christoph Waltz fan so I'm sure my favorite scenes will include him.

If you're going with buddies I'd suggest watching something entertaining. Django is the way to go here. Non stop entertainment for nearly three hours and you'll have plenty to talk about when it's finished.
