How do you suppose they do that? It isn't simply putting three linemen and four linebackers on the field. We don't have the personnel for it. It will still be a 4-3 next year with a good bit of nickel and mustang.

UGA, Bama, Notre Dame, etc etc.

Several teams run it.

Yes, with huge DT's and Jarvis Jones at OLB.

So you're telling me our 210 pound LBs and our 240 pound DEs aren't ideal for the 3-4 defense? That's crazy thinking.

They ran it effectively against A&M. Good in spots.

I was at Williams Bryce Stadium this past fall to watch Georgia get totally Sanduskied!

Why would LSU need to change? Our defense doesn't seem to be the problem.

when we get in 3 man fronts, it's the mustang package, which is a 3-2-6 personnel grouping. there may be some variance to that - for exampple, when Harry Coleman would stay in in a 3-3-5 - but it's generally 3-2-6.

Call it what you want. 3 man DL. Bringing DBs down to play out of position or to make one hell if a dime package. It's an alternative to the traditional 3-4.

Calm down homie. I think it is logical to run some 3 man fronts this coming season, given the lack of depth on the DL, while also giving more opportunities to put some other talented players on the field in the next 2 levels.

Obviously, we run a base 4-3, and recruit accordingly; I mean certain players come to LSU specifically bc we are the premiere (at worst top-2) 4-3 defense in the SEC. We wouldn't be in the hunt for RNk if not for this.

Your post just screams "I know more about football than you!" without regard to the actual discussion. Just because you play a lot of NCAA doesn't make you an expert.

Graychef I agree. Its pretty obvious that we sometimes run a true 3-4. The only question that remains is should we get some smaller and speedier DE's for that formation? Somebody like maybe Trindon Holiday at DE?

we don't have a nose tackle big enough to take on both A gaps therefore we don't run a 3-4. just because we have three down lineman doesn't mean its a 3-4...

What the frick are you talking about? My point was about the three man DL, not the makeup of the remaining eight.
