I think you might very well be looking at secession at that point, or prior. If not, then it would be really ugly with war or even a coup as a result of thousands upon thousands of body bags of both civilian and military/police/Fed alike. That's something that would be really hard to sell to the American people. Imagine a shoot out in a neighborhood where a little kid was shot by federal agents. Not very pretty, and it would be really difficult to keep that out of the press.

Not true! They take an oath to defend the constitution and to obey the President ONLY in according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.... If he is not following the constitution they have a duty to uphold the constitution first!!

quote:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

First, this is reframing the basic premise in the debate; the second amendment. In order to create leverage for their position, they need to reframe the debate so that the second amendment doesnt stand in their way. The problem in not reframing the debate is that the discourse points back to an actual law that they cant argue against without sounding kooky.

By reframing the debate, coupled with an increasingly stupid, disinterested, and apathetic public...they are able to effectively remove or mitigate the largest argument against their position. It should be easily struck down, but the sycophant media happily spews their garbage as fact whenever possible.

Some will, and some won't. psychology shows us that the the methods used in basic training of sleep deprivation, bonding to a leader, etc..are done to foster an environment of a team...leading to an us v them mentality. As is often said "I fight for the guy beside me".

Add in the sniveling idiots like the TSA who get off on power trips..and unfortunately you may have a larger percentage than any of us really want to contemplate.

1st order of business is to protect and defend the Constitution.

How does this even become a law? The house won't fund it. He cannot make a law himself.

I said machine gun, not automatic weapon.

Machine gun certainly implies automatic weapon. What did you intend to say?

The only thing that would piss me off about my neighbor having a machine gun is if he (or she) wouldn't let me shoot it.

I meant to imply an extreme personal weapon.

The term automatic weapon is too broad, and I'm not for control of all automatic weapons. I want extreme, over the top weapons controlled.

I realize the Constitution is in play here so any controls have to be thought out by experts so that our basic right to own a gun is not taken away from us.

I'm not telling you I have the answer, I'm just telling you what I want. If there is no answer, there is now answer; but I want to keep my right to bare arms.

I don't know about strict definitions, but I consider this a "machine gun":

...while this a "sub-machine gun":

You could even make the argument that this is a "machine pistol":

I assumed you meant something like the M2 Browning on top - which I would love if my neighbor had one, but I understand if you wouldn't.

Not trying to play expert, I'll rely on experts such as yourself to craft a good amendment.

I'd rather be safe than sorry. I think along with limiting the type of weapons certain security measures could go into the amendment.

Say if you owned certain type of weapons, the amendment would require you to have a gun safe, etc.

I would make it tough for someone to steal your weapon(s) or for young kids to get a hold of one.

I realize my idea may not be workable, heck like someone said prohbition was a noble idea; but it might not be practical.

FWIW, more deaths are alcohol related than deaths from murder via firearms.

I'm no expert, I just knew what you were referring to - at least that was the image that popped in my head when I read "machine gun".

It never is practical in a 'free' society.

When I was in high school, my PE teacher just went nuts and drove over several people with his car in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. If he had an AR-15, he might have used it, but he didn't need it. Crazy people are going to do crazy shite.

The point is an insane man walked into a gun store and purchased a military rifle and high capacity magazines.

Now those children are dead in NH for nothing. Maybe it's time to sacrifice a little bit so others may live.

When was this?

You can't legislate against everything. People booze it up all the time, some boozers kill innocents. Tragic deaths all of them, but we tried legislating the removal of all alcohol
and it failed miserably.

Gun murders are fewer than alcoholic related deaths.

There's just so much you can do, and while I believe these over the top guns should be banned or regulated, I can't define waht an over the top gun is.
