how many of y'all "wash" your rice before you cook it?
my wife looked at me like I was insane the first time I asked her if she washed her rice before cooking. she had never heard of it before me.

I've never heard of it

ETA: And I pretty much never cook anything that doesn't involve rice

It removes the excess starch and a lot of the vitamins. It also makes the rice less sticky.

This is correct so, it depends on what I am cooking.

If you are relying on rice for your vitamins and helath benefits you need to revise your diet.

I used to, but now I just kinda shake it around and pick out any trash I might see before I cook it.

I do not.

Anyone else drop some butter in with the rice when it goes into the pot?

I don't but my mom does.

I've heard you lose a lot of the vitamins if you do. Have no idea if it's true.

I don't, but I have a very good friend from Kaplan that grew up in the rice industry that does.

He said if you had any idea of the rats and bugs and shite that come in contact before it is bagged up, you'd wash it too.

I do it occasionally. Never put enough to make a difference though.
