I'm two episodes in and am not completely drawn in yet. I'm guessing I should keep going, right?

Background:

Watched '24' on Netflix, start to finish..loved it.
Watch 'Smallville' from a download..loved it.

Tried 'Prison Break' and 'Dollhouse'...didn't go over well.

I'm kind of interested in this as well. I remember when it was on tv and my sister loved it. I always thought it was like a "chick action series" so I never watched

It depends.

It's a lot of fun and a lot of fluff. It has some good characters, but the formula can get old quickly.

Not a terrible show, but very very Abrams-centric. Flashy cinematography, thin character development, fun action.

it's pretty good, and if you like sci-fi stuff, it actually gets better and better - by the end of season 2 it's some of the better TV of all time. I'm currently about to finish up season 3, and it did a very good job of following up one of the best seasons of any show.. well.

The very first episode had some things in that caught my attention, but they wrapped them up in that very episode. I was like, WTF, that would have been great to drag out a little.

If you had to try to compare it to 24, how would they compare?

First 2 seasons are pretty good. Goes downhill after that IMO.

that's EXTREMELY hard to do. Alias is more "Bond" whereas "24" is more "Black Hawk Down"...? does that make sense?

You are going to see much more espionage and secret stuff going on in Alias than you ever saw in 24, sure there was "twist" in 24, but the twist in Alias are brought in to a setting of spies, and not military personnel..

Alias is good, but there is also some "sci-fi" sprinkled in throughout the whole show, and in season 3 it's actually referencing things from season 2, whereas in 24 a lot of times there wasn't a whole lot of carry-over from season to season, in fact when they tried it in 24 :cough: season 6 :cough: it was some of the worst seasons.. Alias does this, and it adds to the quality, and doesn't take away.

24 is all around better. Better writing. Better actors. Better characters. Especially with Season 3, 24 approaches cinema-quality production values.

Alias never gets there. But it has some cool story lines.

And although Jack Bauer > Jack Bristow... Bristow is a lot of fun to watch.

Garner is the weak link for most of the show. She's good, but... troublesome to watch.

24 is more Bourne than "Black Hawk Down." Better yet:

24 = Dalton or Craig Bonds
Alias = Roger Moore Bond

That horrible, horrible "comedy" relief tech guy is the biggest weakness. I cringe in pain just thinking about him, and his terrible hairpiece.

and Jennifer Garner is not hot

My first impression of him was that it was uncomfortable to watch. They could do away with it.

See, I have always liked her. Had a bit of a crush on her.

And yes, the comparisons, or lack there of, with 24 make sense.

So, liking 24 doesn't mean I'll like Alias. Got it. I'll continue it.

Just watch it for Sloan and Jack Bristow. That's enough fun to have. Treat all Sidney scenes like commercials.

Fear, I would almost be tempted to just tell you to jump to season 3, and start from there, I know your TV taste, and season 3 is much MUCH more up your alley.

This is a great show IMO. Just the right amount of Spy gloss coupled with some Satisfying action and intrigue. Jack Bristow is a bad arse. And Sydney is absolutely formidable. Sloan is great and the whole Rambaldi mythology is highly enjoyable. It has weak spots after season 3 IMO but the last two season ride off the first three. I did find the finale and Sloan's fate satisying.
