quote:yes, yes they are. This is as good a group of young D Linemen as I have seen them get all at one time, that is why I am sayin stuff like this.
They're all awesome.

Throw in Neal, Patterson, Lawson and LaCouture, that's a legit depth replenishing job with one recruiting class.

Does it really matter?
The way we rotate in and out on the d-line, they will all probably see significant playing time. Will really help out for their future.

And if they get Tim Williams and this Nkemidiche kid, this will just be ridiculous!

Haven't been paying attention but I wrote off Williams. The way he has acted, I wouldn't think Les wants him.. Seems like he'd be a headache

I don't see it, but maybe. The rotation will look something like this.
DE: Rasco, Allen
DT: Ego, Thomas
DT: Freak, Johnson
DE: Hunter, Maclin
I think we get better play from our tackles in 2013. I think the light comes on for Freak and Ego next season.
Also, Jordan Allen, Danielle Hunter, and Rasco are very talented.

How is Jordan Allen recovering from injury?

Your take is the popular theory and one that my come to fruition.
Just my thoughts on it but who knows how it will truly bear out. That's what the spring and fall camp are for. Any of us could be right
DE Rasco
DT Johnson
DT Ferguson
DE Hunter
The starters are pretty much locked in imo. One because of experience and 2 because they're the most talented options. Pretty simple
As for depth
DE
Maclin-we know nothing about his level of skill. All we know is that he was last on the totem pole of the DEs this year. Was that a biproduct of the talent of the others or his lack of skill? Still unknown. I have to believe that preinjury he would've passed Aghayere who was a shadow of the prospect we recruited unfortunately.
Allen-we know Les and Brick love him. That tells me nothing more than that he wroks hard. He's a talented kid but we don't know how high his skill level is. I do believe he will be the 1st guy in the rotation.
Neal-I think he plays but only on special teams and as a situational pass rusher. That's enough but he can't be counted on as a steady 20+ snap guy imo unless we're playing a spread team. He'll thrive against those
Herron-He'll play and play alot. I expect him to be the 1st freshman off the sideline in the rotation. His strength will allow him to hold his own.
Lacouture-I expect DE to be his spot next year but eventually DT is his landing spot. I would not be suprised if he was a key member of the rotation next year. He's ready to play now.
DT
Bain- has the size for sure but he's too raw. He'd have to come in and really be on his game in terms of taking in coaching to play a lot early. I can see him factoring in more later in the year but I'd prefer a redshirt
Lawson-raw and needs some size. I just don't see him being a factor next year.
Gilmore-I think he'll play. Time will increase as the year goes on and he learns the craft. Likely to be up and down
Thomas-this is the kid I can't wait to see. Have heard great things about him and his talent. I fully expect him to start to show out next year. Probably in flashes like Freak did his 1st year.
Johnson-He'll play but to me he's not a good fit. His strength will allow him to be effective in clogging the middle. Do:kt expect much push from him in the pass game.
Overall the depth is there but it's extremely young and inexperienced. Could blossom quickly and look like the LSU DLs we're used to or could struggle and be not so good. I expect it to be a group somewhere in the middle. At times flashing dominance and at times looking horrible and getting nothing done. Overall I expect ebbs and flows consistent with young groups.

Why do posters on the recruiting board do this? It's as if you all forget about the studs from past recruiting classes. Danielle Hunter and Rosco will be your ends with Ego and Freak on the interior. Those four will be your starters, Freak has been the biggest d-line recruit we've had in years and he will be finally starting in his junior year.
Completely agree. Everyone needs to take a step back, perception is not reality in this case. PP7 and Freak are prime examples.

Lacoutre is an EE, I believe. He, Herron, Neal (in certain situations) might get in the rotation as Freshmen. I can't see any of the DTs getting in as freshmen, but maybe.
Allen was ready to contribute this season. Assuming he comes back at full strength, I expect big things from him. He is a mean SOB.
Rasco got better as the season went along. Sometimes he looked lost, but the talent is there. I think that now that he knows it is his time, we will get to see what all the fuss was about in N. Louisiana.
Hunter has drawn rave revues from the coaches, and has tons of potential. I am looking forward to watching him develop. He is a big ole boy.
Hate to say it, but if any of the true freshmen play, it probably means Maclin has been passed up.
As I said, I think another year of experience and weight training will make Ego and Freak better. I am predicted big things from them both, and that is where a good D starts.
Mickey Johnson: strong as an ox. He will be good against the run, but, as you say, not too sure what we get against the pass. I think he will provide quality depth, despite some not so glowing reports about his progress.
Quentin Thomas: too me, the guy is a total wildcard. Didn't play his senior year, and redshirted. I don't know what to expect.
I think line will be better, especially against the run. What we give up in speed (Mingo in particular), we gain in size. I know a lot of folks are down from the loss to Clemson (I was there, it sucked), but no one should sleep on the Tiger D next year.

The word on Maclin is not a lack of talent, more of lacking a desire to hit somebody, doesn't have the mean streak/chip on his shoulder. Maybe work ethic too, not sure tho.
Now, that may or not be true but that's what is said about him

Herron will crack the 2 deep at end or tackle.

I think Gilmore becomes another mingo type but we gotta wait til moffitt to get a hold of him.
Gilmore is a 280lb d tackle not a 200lb line backer. He is nothing like mingo and i just shake my head at some of the shite i see posted on this site.

Blowing it up in spring and Sam montgomery singled him out and said has all the tools to be the next great LSU dlineman. Then the injury. I really hink Allen would have played this year and would have helped a lot for the depth on the line when they were wore out at the end of the year.

Gilmore, yes.
Bain, frick no.
Herron, possibly.
