re: Help needed w/ hotels in NYC

We stayed at The Tryp Hotel on W35th between 8th and 9th Ave and liked it pretty well.
Just a couple of blocks from MSG. Might want to check that one out.

If your on a tight budget try staying at the Spring Hill Suites in Newark near the airport. You can take a shuttle to the PATH train that will take you to either World Trade Center or 33rd and 6th. A nice roomy hotel with two beds and a pullout, 150 bucks or so. Will cost you 50 minutes a day in commute time and about 5 bucks a person.

Spent a week at the New Yorker Hotel on 34th and 8th. Pretty much next door to MSG for about $250 a night. Decent hotel for price. Would stay again.

If you want to really cheap, Hotel 31 is a hotel on 31st street near park ave (not far from MSG). Bathrooms are down the hall, but there is a sink in the room. Cheap hotel, but a good location (walking distance to the Murray Hill/3rd ave strip of bars, close to the 6 train).

the New Yorker is a block from MSG....rooms are small though...

just got back and stayed at the Hilton at Newark Airport...they do have a shuttle which will hook you up to the train that stops at Penn Station (which is under MSG)...

Go to Hotwire select the appropriate area near MSG, look at how much you want to pay and book it. A hotel in manhattan is going to be reasonably nice.

If all 4 are kicking in $250 a night, The Plaza.

Don't forget to have drinks at the Oak Bar.

Really? So a $1,000 won't get a four day weekend in Manhattan?!?

Yes it will. You just have to get creative and you can find pretty good room.

If it's your first time to NYC, look for hotels around Times Square. You'll find cheaper hotels elsewhere in Manhattan; but unless you know what you're doing, transportation can be time consuming and/or costly (e.g. taxi rides).
