Can the Cleveland Indians challenge Detroit in 2013?

Cleveland added some decent pieces this offseason with Francona, Swisher, Reynolds, Bauer, Stubbs, Brett Myers and Aviles.
If Carlos Santanna, Michael Brantley and Kipnis take another step foward and Lonnie Chisenhall lives up to expectations, can this team challenge for the Central?
Pretty decent staff. If Jimenez, Bauer, and Carasco (coming of TJ) pitch to their potential then this staff will be potent. Myers is solid as they come, as is Masterson.
Bauer
Masterson
Myers
Jimenez
McAlister
Carlos Carasco
Michael Brantley - CF
Jason Kipnis- 2B
Asdrubal Cabrera- SS
Swisher- RF
Santanna- C
Reynolds- 1B
Stubbs- LF
Chisenhall- 3B
Aviles?- DH
That's a lineup full of pretty good hitters with a few who could win silver sluggers at their position.
This team reminds me a lot of the Orioles going into last season.

There are quite a few "ifs" in that post.

God I hope so. The desperation of Cleveland fans is ridiculous, now that the Saints have won a Superbowl.

Even without the ifs, the lineup is strong. Pitching is so so

Bullpen isnt going to lose them many games though. Pestano>Perez is a nice way to end a ballgame.

I agree. Too many "ifs".
There's a good bit of talent there but the inconsistent pitching and hitting for that matter, will have them hovering around .500.
Probably going to be a couple of years away before they start making any real noise.

Only if Santana and Kipnis have huge seasons

Ha ha, you're stupid. I just read your post on how Manning to the Broncos (instead of the Cardinals) will go down as the worst decision an athlete ever made. I bet you feel legally retarded, don't you? That post was so epically awful, it will forever color whatever else you write on TD.

There are only so many guarantees in the MLB

You must not be familiar with his other work. That thread is par for the course.
Santana needs to figure out how to not strike out 2 times a game.

There will be a lot of whiffs w Santana, Stubbs, and Reynolds, that's for sure

Maybe if one of those guys is making solid contact they can find a spot for Matt LaPorta to record some k's.

Kipnis strikes out as well. Certainly not in the mold of the other 3, but he gets his fair share. He stunk it up big time after a hot start last season.
Too much inconsistency from top to bottom.

Opposing pitchers are going to put up great K numbers against that lineup.

You lost Choo to us, so I doubt it.

Oh by the way, Stubbs is a headcase. Sometimes it looks like he is not trying and just tells himself he'll swing regardless of where it's pitched. He strikes out like I've never seen before. Maybe he'll improve with a change in scenary. Good luck with him.

He was gone at the end of next season anyways. That was a great trade for Cleveland. He also hasnt been the same since his dewey.

I'm not an Indian fan. Just felt like they were an interesting case going into 2013
