I think my generation would stand up if we were attacked by a real nation with intent to destroy us.

And with us we will being a decade of trained up and developed bloodthirst from Call of Duty and the like.

Beyond your own biases and historicism, I think you have to consider that the military does not take everyone it calls up for the draft.

Also, the foreign national is free to return home if they receive a draft notice, so there is some self-selection and acceptance in the process.

Some would, some would not as in all generations, but you are in denial if you don't think the attitude toward a draft has changed over the past 70 years, and the fact that a draft does not exist facioitates the thinking that, one can belong to a state and accept the benefits with no obligation one chooses not to accept.
