SEC teams have all-americans on their 2 deep at every spot. How else would they make it through the brutal SEC. Any other team in the country would lose 3+ games in the SEC if they has to play a 9 game SEC schedule.

That's how important Andre Smith was to Bama.
No, that's how weak Alabama was. Last year, LSU played a game without a Hiesman Trophy finalist due to suspension, and didn't miss a beat. Also, depth is a good indicator of team strength. EDIT: In both 2001 and 2007, LSU won the SEC Championship games with backup quarterbacks.

Um, Andre Smith had a huge impact on that Bama team.
I cant believe this excuse is still used. The game wasnt even close. A complete arse beating in every sense of the word. Same with Louisville, Florida last night. Totally out classed, out played and out coached. Another beatdown but maybe Florida just didnt care!

Well, that team was still made up mostly of Shula's recruits. Remember, Bama didn't even have a single player drafted in the NFL after the previous season. Les Miles had seven full recruiting classes under his belt so of course he would have a lot more talent and depth to work with than Saban did that year.

As I said, a 2-10 Tulane team dominated Bama in Tuscaloosa when they didn't have Andre Smith. It's complete idiocy to say that the absence of Andre Smith didn't have a major impact on that game.

What's really funny is Bama fans using it. Tell a Bama fan if Colt McCoy doesn't get hurt Texas wins and see what they say. Utah whipped their ass, no excuses apply

I agree with this. That Alabama team wasn't as good as their record. They were overachievers, but people have a hard time accepting the fact that Alabama had inferior talent that year and got where they were because of great coaching.

He played defense too? Against the mighty SEC defense we hear so much about Utah hung 21 in the first quarter and had well over 400 yards offense. It could have been worse if they hadnt started running clock in the second quarter! Did you watch that beating?

Let's put it this way. Both games would have been a lot more competitive and entertaining to watch without those injuries.

Also, look at how many players from that Utah defense ened up playing on Sundays. Alabama just got beat by the better team and no one offensive lineman would have turned the game around.
