Makes no sense that a bigger club isn't chasing M'Villa. His price tag is half what it was last January

Haven't we heard nothing but bad things about him lately though? attitude and work ethic problem and not playing much? talent only does so much.

Means nothing to me really. A big club with a good manager should be able to handle him. Worth the risk..

Rumors are that United wants to take a chance on him, but not until the summer. He's exactly what we need.

Has the CR7 "I swear I'm going to stay at Real until my contract ends wink wink" development been discussed yet?

Wenger signed mega-problem child RvP when he was having his troubles so us shying away from M'Vila isn't a good sign for him.

The way I see it, no one wanted to spend £15m on him in the summer. Why spend £8m if there's a good chance he completely flops?

Why buy anybody at all then?

Last season he was one of the more coveted midfielders in Europe. Now there's a good chance he completely flops? WTF. The kid is young and is a good player. This isn't 10 years ago when £8m was actually worth something. What decent midfielder can be bought for under £10m right now?

Wenger not buying him means little to me. I doubt he wants to try and mentor a problem child in his mid 60s.

Rather spend 8 on a flop than 15. In fact, the lower price tag would encourage me more to take a chance on him.

Seriously?

(Obviously) transfers are all about cost/benefit analysis. If he wasn't worth 15m to Arsenal (or whoever) in the summer, before these attitude issues resurfaced, when talent alone was the primary factor, it makes sense to me that no big club would take a risk on him now at 8m. This guy has had issues every time he's had a career boost. That has to factor in there too. And it isn't just the 8m, its the agent fees, the wages... ~15m is no chump change for anyone. Apparently most clubs think that money can go to a better use.

We are borderline desperate for a MF right now. We started Diaby even though he'd played only 65 minutes of reserve action in the past 3 months. I think Arsenal not taking advantage of what you all (and others) are saying is a steal of a deal, and a classic Arsene buy, says something to me. But it isn't just Arsenal. Every other big club is passing on him as well. This is a guy who has been thoroughly scouted. I hope they kid turns it around, but I understand the logic behind passing on him.

Well, as I said before, United won't buy until the summer. So he could be on the top of our list, like the rumors have suggested, and we're just waiting.

Also, he's been connected recently to City and Spurs.

Redknapp just said the deal is almost done for M'Vila so, those rumors would seem to be BS. January doesn't affect any of those clubs' funding for an M'Vila move. And if they were really concerned about him hurting team chemistry midseason, they could let him finish the season out at Rennes or loan him elsewhere. Other than chemistry concerns, what is the logic behind letting your supposed top target get away just because it is January? If he's so high on your list, get him now before he's off the market.

SAF said he wasn't buying in January. And these rumors have been around for a while. They just didn't spring up today.

Not sure length of rumors means much.

And that response didn't answer my question at all.

I think I'm missing the logic behind this. Especially considering his attitude has been a question mark for the better part of the last 2-3 years.

You know shite doesn't just work like that. There are reasons clubs haven't bought M'Vila yet, just like there are reasons no clubs put in bids for Ba. The transfer season is madness. And it's barely starting to heat up.

He is great value at £8m. He just needs to grow up. A strong minded manager (SAF, Rafa, Redknapp, Wenger, Rodgers, Moyes, etc) would do him good.

Here, I'll give you some answers.

quote:

Redknapp just said the deal is almost done for M'Vila so, those rumors would seem to be BS.

So rumors of SAF wanting M'Vila that have been around for months are BS because QPR is about to sign him now? Ok...

quote:

I don't know for sure that he's our top target necessarily, but SAF said he wasn't buying a soul in January. He's been talking about summer moves. If someone else buys him, then we just missed out. But United isn't looking to buy right now, according to the man himself. Now, he may be lying his balls off, but I'm going to believe this until he proves me wrong.

I believe United's not buying him right now because they're not buying anyone right now. It's not about his attitude problem, that's for sure.

He's had attitude problems periodically over the past few years. Nothing "resurfaced." It's been an ongoing issue as long as Arsenal has been "interested" (problems on and off the pitch).

I think there's a difference than having attitude problems at 18 or 19 and those problems being exacerbated at 22. If a problem you thought might have been dying down some reignites, does that not lower his value? If he's not making any improvement at this point, why should a club invest millions in him? I fully agree there is value to be found in head cases like this, not sure 8m is the right level of value. This kid is a very solid prospect, and could become a very good player yet, but this isn't Tevez or Balotelli we're talking about here.

Sure it doesn't work like that. But I know when SAF has a top target, he generally lands him. Rennes has been shopping him. I just find it highly, highly unlikely that SAF covets M'Vila more than anyone on the transfer market and will let him go to QPR. There are definitely other things at play here...which is why he's going to QPR for what we all think is a cut rate.
