Hunting from the ground

Anyone ever just put a stool on the side of the road in some cover where you know they are crossing? Found a spot today but dont have an extra stand for it. Am thinking of hunting this crossing this afternoon. I have a ground blind but everything ive read says you need it out there for a couple of weeks for it to be effective...

Just hunt the ground 75 yards from the crossing. If its really heavily trafficked they'll come along. Maybe throw a bit of feed out to make them stop. Set up in a old tree top.

Check the law with regard to how far off the road you need to be.

you don't NEED to leave it (a ground blind) out for a few weeks from what I've read. if you brush it up and distort the outline, it should be alright.
I just bought one and am going to try it out in a few days on some WMA land.

I hunt from the ground all the time. I've never killed a deer like that, because I'm usually hunting a big deer that I know is in the area. Just never had the right one come along, but I do see lots of deer like this. It's a lot of fun because you have deer walk so close sometimes that you can almost kick them, and they never know you're there.
Oh, and I usually don't carry a stool. I just sit up against a tree trunk.

Do it all the time.
I just find a log to sit on. As long as there's some shite around to reasonably break up your outline and you sit still you'll be fine unless they get realllllll close. They pick up movement and noise much easier than somebody sitting still.
My favorite thing to do is lean on a tree. I've had them walk right past me several times without seeing me. Shot one of my biggest bucks at about 20 feet when I was leanin on a tree and he never knew I was there till he got hammered.

I bow hunt from the ground all the time because where I like hunting, there are not many climable trees
I just cut some limbs to make a quick blind, and bring a dove stool

Good catch.
If you own a little dove hunting chair that says BONE COLLECTOR on it, use it. I'm 1 for 1 sitting in mine

You obviously want to be downwind and any height off ground is preferable ,and bring your shooting stick. Good Luck

done it many times. have sometimes brush it in, but usually the first time I just find a crossing and plop down 50 yards away.

Yea, sorry bout the hijack.
Its the way the old timers did it.
To be honest, I have noticed deer step out into a right-of-way and look directly into a box stand to see if it was occupied.
Hunting on the ground is doable, just try to find a thick spot to get in.
And I hope your not as fidgetty as I am.
