People that think Van Hagar > Van Halen deserve to be shot.

I like both, but David Lee Roth is a better fit for the band, and the songs had much more impact. Sammy Hagar, while excellent with Montrose (love me some Montrose), and these days as a solo artist, brought a whole different feel to the band. Van Hagar had some great hit songs, but Van Halen kicked arse.

I don't think that either choice is a capital offense, however.

First time I saw Van Halen was in 1983, and they were great. Saw Van Hagar on their first tour, and they were horrible. The timing was off, just didn't work. My buddy and I actually left after about 6 songs.

Bachman Turner Overweight, err... Overdrive, opened, and they were surprisingly good.
