i keep the lid on for everything. compadre, everyone is different in the way they do things. the best teacher is trial and error, or at least for me. just take some of the info from the thread and apply all the different techniques at different times and see what works best for you.

Every man should learn to cook with fire, 2 tips: Start your fire on one side of the grill, so you can move your food around from hot/direct side to cool/indirect side as needed. You are going to burn stuff, over and undercook stuff, and make mistakes. Don't worry about it, we all did too. Stick with it and after a dozen meals, you will be giving advice! Have fun. (OK, one more, no lighter fluid, ever)
