Most of the money goes to peacekeeping/security operations, not the "debating society"
quote: Correct, but the countries that contribute forces are typically subsidized. Because US forces and sometimes other Western forces are so expensive to deploy, it is two to three times cheaper to use the forces of other nations, this saves you as a taxpayer money.
No. The security forces come from the standing military of other nations. The UN does not have its own army.
Not at all. Rape by UN troops is rampant. It's an example of how out of control the UN is.
I could make the same subjective statement about the US military, or a number of other institutions, but throwing out the baby with the bath water and calling for its elimination rather then reform is not a serious argument. Not to make excuses, but the abuses by UN forces in most cases was no where near the atrocities that could have occurred.
give them 3 hand sweepers and in 6 months the job is done
That is funny, you must have a lot of experience in demining operations.
So, if 10% gets to the needy, it justifies the 90% corruption? Really?
Do you have figures on this, if you could show me the data maybe you could convince me we should defund the UN.
